  19.   Over a year ago, I quit the Amiga scene.  I didn't totally turn my back,
  20. but I was pretty sure that no matter what happened, the Amiga was going to
  21. die, and I didn't want to be there when it did.

  23.   That was until GATEWAY 2000 decided to buy up the remnants of the Amiga
  24. from the now bankrupted ESCOM GMBH.  GATEWAY 2000 are a BIG company,
  25. certainly bigger than ESCOM were, and easily the size of Commodore when
  26. they too were a big company.  
  27.  
  28.   Initially news was released about what they were going to do with the
  29. Amiga, and they setup Amiga Technologies as a seperate company, belonging
  30. to Gateway 2000.  This is fine.  This is a good step, but one of only many
  31. that need to be taken.

  33.   Amiga Technologies have promised that by the middle of 1998, perhaps the
  34. last quarter of 1998, we can expect a totally new Amiga, with new
  35. processor, new everything.  This, I like.  The Amiga has to progress from
  36. what it is to help it succeed.  The new Amiga needs to have the same impact
  37. as the A500 did over ten years ago!  I remember seeing Shadow of the Beast
  38. for the first time and I was totally gobsmacked by it.  I had never seen
  39. anything like it outside an Arcade Machine.  But those days are gone, they
  40. are in a very memorable past.

  42.   I want to do stuff on the new Amiga's, legal or otherwise.  I want to
  43. keep on contributing any way I can..... but theres a problem, a stumbling
  44. block which AMIGA TECHNOLOGIES ARE TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR!

  46.            WHAT DAMN PROCESSOR ARE THEY USING IN THE NEW AMIGAS?

  49.   I don't have a particular problem whether its PowerPC chips, DEC Alpha
  50. chips or whatever else is on the market, I don't damn well care what it is,
  51. as long as I know what it will be.  Phase 5 have just started to release
  52. Power-UP boards incorporating PowerPC chips.  This is great..... but how
  53. can anyone be expected to buy these boards which cost a lot of money, when
  54. Amiga Technologies refuse to tell us if they will actually use the same
  55. processor in the new machines???

  57.   So we all go buy Power-UP boards, and three months later, Amiga
  58. Technologies release a new machine with a DEC Alpha processor in it!!!!
  59. Amiga owners have had to put up with so much shit with the Amiga, because
  60. they believe in it, they WANT it to suceed again, and so it damned well
  61. should, but Amiga Technologies are not making life very easy at the moment.
  62. This is the kind of thing that will be the last and final shit that some
  63. Amiga owners will take, and they will end up leaving the Amiga forever
  64. because of it.

  66.   We need to know now!  If it is to be PowerPC chips, we can buy PowerUP
  67. boards, and start to learn PowerPC ASM and build libraries of routines
  68. that are good for PowerPC based Amigas.  Not everyone wants to code in C, I
  69. for one don't EVER want to go anywhere near it, thats the same for a lot of
  70. people.  By the time the official machine is released, people will be able
  71. to release games, utilities, comms packages, applications very quickly,
  72. because they would have already coded them on their PowerUP Amigas.  This
  73. is simple logic, that is escaping the brains of Amiga Technologies.

  75.   Its time for action from Amiga Technologies.  There is no need for
  76. secrecy regarding the processor, just damn well tell us!

  78.   I, like many many people have been waiting for over 3 years for something
  79. to happen.... its time it happened real soon before Amiga Technologies lose
  80. some good people forever.
