The information within brackets '[]' are comments added by the guide's authors or character names obtained from dialogue within the show. 2. Character names in braces '{}' did not appear directly in the on air credits but were obtained indirectly from TV Guide, scripts of the episodes, or where the spelling was available in the episode (e.g., Marshall spelling Syndi's name in the 1st episode, Devon Wilde's name on the gravestone, etc.). 3. Voiceovers are narration by Marshall and others. 4. The synopses are adapted from TV Guide listings. 5. Only a portion of the production credits are listed in the guide. These include the ones in the opening credits, and the ones in the closing credits up to the guest cast. 6. The introduction notation used in the episodes section of the guide is explained in the introductions section of the guide. 7. The airdates in the episodes section of the guide are for the U.S. Airdates for other countries are listed in appendix A. See appendix D for the specific episodes each was listed for. page 2 April 2, 1994 THE EERIE INDIANA EPISODE GUIDE Introductions Introductions of Eerie The voiceover that Marshall uses to give an introduction of the show varies through the run of the series. For the first episode the introduction set up how Marshall came to Eerie and a little of what he found there. For the second episode it gave some more on what Marshall found in Eerie. This was shortened somewhat for the following episodes that used it. The show introductions are: 1. "To whom it may concern. If you're reading this document, it means I'm either dead - or disappeared under mysterious circumstances. My name is Marshall Teller. Not long ago I was living in New Jersey just across the river from New York City. It was crowded, polluted, and full of crime. I loved it. But my parents wanted a better life for my sister and me - so we moved to a place so wholesome, so squeaky clean, you could only find it on TV. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Sure, my new home town *looks* normal enough, but look again. What's wrong with this picture? The American dream come true, right? Wrong. Nobody believes me, but this is the center of weirdness for the entire planet. Eerie, Indiana. My home sweet home. Still don't believe me? You will." 2. "Eerie, Indiana. Day 45. I knew my home town was going to be different from where I grew up in New Jersey, but this is ridiculous. Nobody believes me, but Eerie is the center of weirdness for the entire planet. Item, a guy that looks suspiciously like Elvis lives on my paper route. Item, Bigfoot eats out of my trash. Item, a bizarre housewife cult in town has been sealing up their kids in giant rubber kitchenware so they don't age. And now, just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, I discovered that in Eerie, even man's best friend is up to no good. When I try to tell this to my family, they just think I'm weird. Better weird than dead." 3. "My name is Marshall Teller. I knew my new home town was going to be different from where I grew up in New Jersey but this is ridiculous. Nobody believes me, but Eerie, Indiana is the center of weirdness for the entire planet. Item, Elvis lives on my paper route. Item, Bigfoot eats out of my trash. April 2, 1994 page 3 THE EERIE INDIANA EPISODE GUIDE Some episodes had a short setup of the episode before the title credits which is indicated with a "S". A dash "-" is used to indicate when no introduction or setup was given before the title sequence. The title/credits montage also exists in several versions which are denoted as (1), (a1), and (a2). In the guide which introduction and title sequence is used is given as (x.y) where x is the introduction number and y is the title sequence number. Introductions of Characters and Places Marshall's family "That's my family. They're all too busy to see what's going on. Mom just started her own party planning service down at the Eerie mall. My sister Syndi is practicing for her driver's test. Personally, I don't think anybody who spells `Cindy' S-y-n-d-i should by allowed to operate a motor vehicle. Dad works for Things, Incorporated, a product testing company. Dad's job is one of the reasons we moved here. Because - statistically speaking - Eerie is the most normal place in the entire country. Statistics lie." Simon "That's Simon, my next door neighbor. He's just a kid but I let him hang out because his parents don't seem to want him around. He's the only friend I've made since moving here. He's also the only one who believes me about Eerie." The original Radford "The World O' Stuff is run by a weird guy named Radford. Every time I saw him he was in a different disguise. I can't prove it, but I think he's in the witness protection program." The new Radford "The weirdest thing happened down at The World O' Stuff. It turns out the reason Radford acted so weird was because he wasn't really Radford. He was Fred Suggs, compulsive imposter. Synopsis Simon and Marshall are cursed on Halloween by an odd occurrence involving Simon's little brother, the TV remote control, and a scary mummy movie. Notes The fish was probably named after the 1922 German film Nosferatu. It was one of the early vampire movies and was remade in 1979 as Nosferatu the Vampyre. (A Jackalope is a fabled half jackrabbit and half antelope creature said to have once inhabited the vast deserts of the American Southwest.) The facts the policeman gave about Marshall: The serial number of his bike was JH772347. He purchased the bike at Knievel Bike Shop in New Jersey. The time of purchase was 2:12 pm on October 10, 1986. He pedals an average of 12.6 miles a day. He has a mole on his upper left arm. In the ending credits, *all* the production people are given the nickname `"Bob"'. Also, listen for a burp at the very end of the end credits. One from the Complete World Bartender's Guide says to pour 8 oz. sarsaparilla into a tall glass. Add 2 oz. vanilla ice cream and stir until well- blended. Sarsaparilla is a soft drink flavored with the dried roots of a tropical American plant (smilax). Some folks in the rec.foods.cooking notes group said it is a drink consisting of root beer with vanilla ice cream. Others said it is a drink made of root beer and milk.
