  11. The recent 'Rosedale Case' posting spearked my interest enough to
  12. find out a little more about it. I found one of the local libraries
  13. have archived the "Gippsland Times" issues, and so I managed to get a
  14. photocopy of the UFO siting report of the 18st of October 1980.

  16. Here is what it said:

  22. An unidentified flying object shaped like a huge top landed at
  23. "Whiteacres", a cattle property on the Princes Highway west of Sale
  24. early yesterday.

  26. Veteran farm hand George Blackwell got withing 150 yards of the
  27. aircraft before it took off with a "Whoosh."
  28.  
  29. Later, the property owner Mr Ralph Anderson and Mr Blackwell found a
  30. large burnt circle on teh ground "and cow pats overturned by the air
  31. rush."
  32.  
  33. Mr Blackwell said yesterday what he saw was almost "unbelievable."
  34.  
  35. The hereford cattle in the adjacent paddock woke him up at 1 am.
  36.  
  37. 'I then heard a whistling sound, and got up to see what was worrying
  38. the cattle. They were running across the paddock.
  39.  
  40. "Then I saw this thing, about 10 to 15 feet high, with a row of
  41. lights, like portholes. It was white with a black brown band.

  43. "I actually saw it land on the ground just a little way off the
  44. highway.

  46. "I got on my motorcycle and started to ride across but when I got
  47. within 15 yards there was a terrific rush of air.

  49. MISSED SHED

  51. "The thing lifted off, just narrowly missing a shed and water tank.
  52. It went between them."

  54. Mr Blackwell said the area was well like "like moonlight,"
  55.  
  56. "I knew what I was seeing, it was all so clear."
  57.  
  58. He then found a burnt circle about 6 metres across.

  60. "It's like a char patch."

  62. Mr Anderson said that after seeing the burn marks, he firmly believed
  63. an aircraft of some sort had landed.

  65. "I didn't believe in this sort of thing but I'm convinced now."

  69. He said cow pats embedded in the ground had been lifted and blown
  70. four or five metres away from teh circle.

  72. The grass was bruised, and the ground had a ring of burnt circles.
  73.  
  74. "It appears that something protected parts of the circle from
  75. burning."
  76.  
  77. Mr Anderson said that cape weed flowers had been torn from their
  78. stalks around the circle.

  80. Mr Blackwell said that he, too, had doubted UFO's.

  82. "I tell you", he said, "if anyone wants convincing now, they should
  83. come and see where this thing landed."

  88. It differs from the other story a bit, but close enough :]. This is a
  89. picture attached with the caption:

  93. The picture shows both men nealing and looking at the ground (B&W),
  94. but I couldn't make out any good ring features. A pretty
  95. dissappointing pic considering.

  97. On the way to the library, I actually passed the property in
  98. question. I didn't see anything strange :).

  100. Very interesting stuff tho. My dad knows of another UFO siting around
  101. the area too, plus there is the ring he remembers on our farm many
  102. years ago.
