  8. ²There    haven't    been   many   good
  9. two-player  games for the CD32.  There
  10. have   been   some  attempts  at  them
  11. though.   Some  like  CD  FOOTBALL and
  12. BRUTAL   FOOTBALL   succeeded,   while
  13. others   like  DANGEROUS  STREETS  and
  14. SUMMER OLYMPIX have missed the mark.
  15.  
  16. ARCADE  POOL  attempts to recreate the
  17. experience  of going down to the local
  18. pool  hall  and  shooting a few games.
  19. The  CD32  version  goes  so far as to
  20. include  a constantly running track of
  21. background  noise from a pub, complete
  22. with    laughter,   conversation   and
  23. coughing to "enhance" the experience.
  24.  
  25. ARCADE   POOL   includes   UK  and  US
  26. versions   of  the  game  as  well  as
  27. trickshot    and   tournament   modes.
  28. Instant replays of the last shot and a
  29. statistics  screen  are also available
  30. at anytime during the game.

  32. I'm sure most of you are familiar with
  33. the   basics   behind  pool  and  it's
  34. various games.  All of the major games
  35. are  included here:  US and UK 8 ball,
  36. US  9 ball and 15 ball.  The rules are
  37. all  very easy to learn and you may be
  38. finding  yourself playing a game you'd
  39. never  think  you'd  play.  (I've been
  40. playing  a  lot  of the UK 8 ball, for
  41. some reason.)

  43. One  major downfall with most computer
  44. billiards   games   is   the   correct
  45. application    of   physics   to   the
  46. ¶²software.   If  the  programmers can't
  47. accurately  make  a  shot  act  as  it
  48. should  in real-life, there's no point
  49. in  the  game.   The physics in ARCADE
  50. POOL  are  among the best I've seen in
  51. an  electronic  pool game.  Bank shots
  52. and  cuts are very much like they'd be
  53. on   a  real  pool  table.   The  only
  54. quibble  is  the  size  of  the balls.
  55. They're a bit on the large side.
  56.  
  57. I  have no major gripes about the game
  58. at all.  The accurate physics and easy
  59. to  learn  shot  mechanism make ARCADE
  60. POOL  a  satisfying solitaire game and
  61. an outstanding two-player game.
