GABRIEL KNIGHT: The Sins of the Fathers
Playable Demo
This fully-playable demo requires about 600K of free
memory to run. If you have trouble running the demo,
you may need to disable memory-resident programs by
starting your computer with a clean boot disk (for
information on how to do this, see the end of this file).
To play the demo, change to the \DOSDEMOS\GKNIGHT
directory of the CD-ROM, type GABRIEL and press Enter.
The files take up about 11 megabytes of space. If you
wish, you can copy the files to your hard drive for
better performance. Run the COPY.BAT program in the
demo's CD-ROM directory, and the files will be copied
to your C: hard drive.
Although fully interactive, this demo covers only "day
one" of the game's ten days. If, during play, you
encounter messages like "Not included on Day One
Playable Demo" please understand that you have stumbled
upon features under development. You do not need any of
these features to solve the puzzles and complete
day one. Please check out the game's "About Screen"
(click on the Sierra Logo in the control panel). There
you will find information about the full game, the
purpose of this demo, and some playing tips.
Note: The music in this game has been authored only for
Sound Blaster, MT32, and Sound Canvas drivers. If
your hardware supports any of these formats, please
select the appropriate driver. If not, you'll have to
get the full game to hear our score.
Also...this demo is meant to be played with a mouse.
Although keyboard and joystick input is possible, it
has not been thoroughly tested. By the way, the entire
Gabriel Knight Overture can be heard if you leave the
initial title screen up for a long enough time.
Making a Clean Boot Disk
-------------------------
Place a blank, formatted floppy disk in your A drive,
type SYS A: and press Enter. This will copy the minimum
amount of DOS system files that the computer needs to
start with. If you're running this demo directly from
the CD-ROM, you'll need to create AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CONFIG.SYS files that load the proper drivers for your
CD-ROM drive.
After you've finished the disk, reboot your computer.
The system will boot using the disk in drive A, bypassing
the startup files on your hard drive.
This should give you the free memory needed to play the demo.
