  5.    1.  This release of VIRx detects  73 new viruses, bringing the total
  6.    to 925 total strings.

  8.    2.  VIRx now detects all files encrypted with the "Mutating Engine" 
  9.    attributed to the Dark Avenger that are not already destroyed by the 
  10.    Engine's attempts to encrypt them (and most of those, as well).
  11.    If you find executable programs with MtE encryption that we miss,

  29.    1.  This release of VIRx detects 126 new viruses, bringing the total to 852 
  30.    total strings.  Among the new viruses included are "1024-SBC" and "Peach".

  32.    2.  There are no active disinfection routines included in this release.

  34.    3.  This version catches attempts to exit VIRx scanning with CTRL-C, and 
  35.    requests confirmation.  If the user confirms the exit request, VIRx will 
  36.    clean our virus signature database out of memory in order to further reduce 
  37.    the possibility of "Virus Active In Memory" false positives.

  39.    4.  A bug was discovered in scanning files of exactly 1024 bytes that could 
  40.    under improbable conditions have caused false positives.  The bug was 
  41.    eradicated.

  50.    1.  This release of VIRx detects 57 new viruses, bringing the total
  51.    to 726 total strings.

  53.    2.  Included in this release is the "MALTESE AMOEBA Virus" disinfector
  54.    from our commercial product, Virex for the PC.  The Maltese Amoeba 
  55.    infects files, variably encrypting itself to try to hide from virus 
  56.    scanners.  On March 15th its destructive code will activate, overwriting
  57.    a substantial portion of your hard disk.  At that time, it also replaces
  58.    the disk's Master Boot Record with code to display a poem (about a
  59.    grain of sand) on subsequent reboot attempts -- such reboot attempts will
  60.    always fail once the virus has triggered on March 15th. This virus is
  61.    believed to be fairly widely distributed in Europe.  The disinfector in
  62.    this release of VIRx is active until March 20.

  64.    3.  This release of VIRx no longer includes the Michelangelo Virus
  65.    disinfector; this disinfector and many more are always included in
  66.    VPCScan, a portion of our commercial product, Virex for the PC.

  68.    4.  Improved V2P6 scanning has eliminated all known false positives for
  69.    V2P6, including those from older programs, such as MEM.COM and
  70.    POPDROP.COM.

  72.    5.  To save your printer paper, some of the earlier "WHATSNEW" entries
  73.    have been removed from this document and can be found in the file called
  74.    "OLD_NEWS.TXT", also in the archive.  We encourage you to read this

  84.    1.  This version of VIRx contains the Disinfector for the MICHELANGELO 
  85.    Virus from our commercial product.  The MICHELANGELO virus infects 
  86.    hard drive Master Boot Records and floppy boot sectors very much like the 
  87.    STONED virus.  Unlike the STONED virus, MICHELANGELO contains code which
  88.    activates on March 6 and, by overwriting critical sections of the infected 
  89.    hard drive, destroys the information on the disk.  VIRx will detect AND 
  90.    REMOVE this virus if used before March 6, 1992.  After that date, VIRx will 
  91.    still detect the virus, if present, but removal will no longer be offered.

  93.    2.  VIRx detects 20 newly discovered viruses, bringing the total to 669.
