  3. The VIRx program you are using is a virus detection-only version of VPCScan,
  4. part of Microcom's Virex.  VIRx is updated approximately erver six weeks. 
  5. Virex is a comprehensive solution to the threat of DOS-based computer
  6. viruses.  It detects the presence of viruses and repairs files infected by
  7. common viruses.  Once your computer is disinfected, Virex continuously
  8. monitors the computer so that virus infections are prevented.
  9. Virex is compatible with Microsoft Windows and Novell networking software.

  11. Virus Detection and Treatment
  12. -----------------------------
  13. VIRX is a detection-only version of VPCScan.  This version is fully
  14. functional in the detection of known viruses, but cannot repair infected
  15. files.  The VPCScan program examines individual files, directories, a single
  16. or series of floppy disks, and hard disks for the presence of over 300 known
  17. viruses.  VPCScan can repair files infected by many known viruses, including
  18. those believed to cause over 95% of PC infections.  Infected files can be
  19. repaired or removed, allowing the user to quickly return to business as usual.

  21. Real-Time Virus Prevention!

  23. Virex also includes a terminate-and-stay resident (TSR) program that
  24. continuously monitors a computer so that virus infections are prevented.  It
  25. inspects each program when started for known viruses and can remove or repair
  26. files infected before a virus can spread.

  28. The TSR program calculates a unique signature for each executable file and
  29. informs the user of any changes prior to execution.  Another TSR can alert
  30. the user to all attempts to format or write directly to a disk, or to read
  31. or write to specified files.  These features prevent unknown virus infections.

  33. VirexPro's Action Learning Mode enables the user to identify certain
  34. actions(e.g., reading or writing to a file) that are legitimate and
  35. therefore, should be permitted.  This feature eliminates interruption during
  36. routine operations.

  38. Customized Protection for Multiple Users

  40. Four security levels enable system administrators to select each user's level
  41. of virus security.  An optional password system allows different protection
  42. for several users of the same computer.

  46. Virex can scan files on network drives for viruses.  A network administrator
  47. can also use Virex to specify legitimate programs for users operating in a
  48. server environment.  These powerful features reduce the threat of viruses

  50. operates for applications running in a Windows 3.0 environment.

  103. 512K system memory is recommended.
