- Methods of Infection
- ====================
-
-
- Viruses use a variety of methods to spread their infection. The
- majority go 'memory resident' when their host program has been
- loaded and then, from there, seek to infect other programs (or
- boot sectors) that they can come into contact with.
-
- Some viruses can infect when a file is opened and the quickest way
- to spread these viruses is through the use of a virus detection
- program which opens all files as it scans them looking for viruses!
- For this reason, virus scanners should ideally be run from a system
- that has been rebooted from an uninfected diskette.
-
- Some viruses can also infect files that are being copied, both the
- source and the target files.
-
- Also some viruses can infect simply through use of the DIR
- command.
