- MISSOURI VIRUS
- ==============
-
- On 27th April 1989, the HomeBase group (USA) reported on Virus-L
- that it had logged over a dozen occurrences of the Missouri virus
- but without ever successfully sampling it.
-
- The latest occurrence was at the National Security Administration
- and it was claimed that the virus came on a disk shipped with a book
- - a third such report in connexion with the book.
-
- The virus was said to disable writing to the hard disk completely,
- but it did allow normal reading of data already stored.
-
- Every site that had been hit had destroyed or lost the original
- source disk and the target disk. The NSA was no exception. Robert
- Dimsdale of the NSA in Fort Meade originally reported the virus to
- the CVIA and he cut the floppy into 8 sections prior to calling. He
- then low-level formatted the hard disk.
-
- Homebase said that they knew Missouri was a virus and not a Trojan
- because they had documented four occurrences of its replication.
