  16.      Definition of Shareware. . .

  18.           Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  19.      before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  20.      using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  21.      differ on details -- some request registration while others
  22.      require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  23.      registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  24.      using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  26.           Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  27.      and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  28.      exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  29.      programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  30.      of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  31.      and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  32.      distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  33.      and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  34.      specific group. For example, some authors require written
  35.      permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  36.      Shareware.

  38.           Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  39.      should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  40.      whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  41.      fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.

  43.      has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  44.      product, you don't pay for it.

  81.      The evaluation version of CM_FILER is offered at no charge to any
  82.      potential user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your friends,
  83.      but please do not give it away altered or as part of another system.  The
  84.      essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer
  85.      users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide
  86.      incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products.

  88.           If you find this program useful and find that you are using
  89.      CM_FILER after a 30-day trial period, you must make a registration
  90.      payment of $30.  Checks may be made payable to Charles F. Martin or
  91.      NoVaSoft.  You will be sent by return mail a registered copy of the
  92.      latest version of CM_FILER with hard copy of the user's manual.  You are
  93.      entitled to have as many copies of it as you wish (for example, one on
  94.      each computer you use at home and work, plus one for your briefcase for
  95.      troubleshooting someone else's system), with the understanding that these
  96.      are for YOUR personal use and demonstration to others.  Please recognize
  97.      that this is a CONSIDERABLY relaxed condition on copying and usage than
  98.      some authors specify.  It is done for YOUR convenience.

  105.           Registration also entitles you to user support by mail or CompuServe
  106.      Mail for at least one year, to a free copy by mail of the next major
  107.      update to CM_FILER. Registration ALSO entitles you to a $10 cash
  108.      commission EACH time a new registrant uses the accompanying registration
  109.      form and cites you as the source of her/his copy of CM_FILER.  Thus, not
  110.      only do you get a truly fine utility packed with features, but you may
  111.      effectively reduce your registration fee, or even net some cash, just by
  112.      showing and offering it to others.  This offer of commission also applies
  113.      to ASP member distributors whose subscribers cite them as the source of
  114.      the copy they are registering.

  116.           Prospective commercial users of CM_FILER may contact the author to
  117.      arrange for a site license.

  119.           Anyone distributing CM_FILER for any kind of remuneration, other
  120.      than the nominal fees associated with distributing Shareware through

  122.      for authorization. This authorization is automatically granted to
  123.      distributors recognized by the Association of Shareware Professionals
  124.      (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
