  50. QUESTION:    What is POLYCOPY?
  51.  
  52. ANSWER: In short, POLYCOPY is an exceptionally easy to use program for making
  53. one or more copies of a diskette (or diskettes) with a single pass of the
  54. original, regardless of disk density.  This feat is accomplished by using
  55. available RAM, XMS memory and/or HARD DISK space to store a complete
  56. "disk image."
  57.  
  58. POLYCOPY is a highly advanced disk duplicating program which offers many
  59. significant advantages over the DOS "DISKCOPY" utility.  Some of the more
  60. important features are listed below:
  61.  
  62.   o    Original disk is inserted only once, even for multiple copies.
  63.  
  64.   o    Automatic configuration.
  65.  
  66.   o    Low RAM requirement.
  67.  
  68.   o    Automatic format.
  69.  
  70.   o     Uses available hard disk (& XMS memory) space to supplement RAM.

  72.   o    Easy to use.  Only one mandatory parameter -- drive letter.

  74.   o    Supports 360K, 1.2M, 720K and 1.44M floppies.

  105. However, as with all shareware, it may be copied freely for evaluation

  113. G E T T I N G   S T A R T E D

  116. REQUIREMENTS
  117.  
  118.         o   IBM or 100% compatible PC
  119.         o   MS-DOS 3.xx or 4.xx (or equivalent)
  120.         o   About 200K of free RAM at the DOS prompt
  121.         o   *Hard disk

  123.       * A RAM disk may be used as a substitute for a hard drive as long as it
  124.         is sufficiently large to hold (potentially) an entire disk image.

  131. As a practical matter, there is no "INSTALLATION"; however, it is usually a
  132. good idea to put a copy of the program "POLYCOPY.EXE" in a pathed directory.

  135. O P E R A T I O N
  136.  
  137. USAGE:  C>polycopy [source drive<:>] [<target drive<:>>] [</f>]
  138.  
  139. Note:    "< >" delimited parameters are optional.
  140.  
  141. Parms:  "/F" = Format Mode.  This will force POLYCOPY to format all diskettes
  142.         prior to copying data.
  143.  
  144. You won't find many disk copy utilities as powerful and easy to use as this
  145. one.  There are usually only two steps you need to follow:
  146.  
  147. 1.      First, make the hard drive (or RAM disk) the default drive.  For
  148.         example, if drive "C:" is your hard drive, this can be accomplished by
  149.         typing "C:" and pressing [ENTER].
  150.  
  151. NOTE:   A temporary file called "DSKIMAGE.}-{" is created on the default drive
  152.         during copying.  It contains data that could not fit entirely into RAM.
  153.         Under normal circumstances, this file is automatically deleted.
  154.  
  155. 2.      Type "POLYCOPY", a space, and then the drive letter of the floppy
  156.         drive that will be doing the copying.  For example:
  157.

  164. NOTE:   Example 2 includes the "FORMAT" parameter.  Also, when "source" and
  165.         "target" drives are the same, then the "target" parameter is optional.

  172. Once POLYCOPY is off and running it is simply a matter of answering a couple
  173. of "Y" or "N" prompts.  Either you continue making copies of the original, or
  174. you copy a different diskette.
  175.  
  176. YOU CAN MAKE AS MANY COPIES OF THE ORIGINAL DISK AS YOU LIKE, WITHOUT 
  177. EVER HAVING TO RE-INSERT THAT DISK.
  178.  
  179. Think of the time, money and frustration you will save.  Especially, when you
  180. are considered whether to register!
  181.  
  182. I would like to say a few things about the "/f" parameter.  When "/f" is NOT
  183. specified, POLYCOPY attempts to determine if it should format the TARGET
  184. diskette prior to copying.  Most of the time that's all you have to worry
  185. about.  But, occasionally, under certain circumstances POLYCOPY cannot
  186. properly determine whether a disk should be formatted.  Hence, there are two
  187. circumstances where you might use the "/f" parameter:
  188.  
  189. 1.      When POLYCOPY has previously been unable to determine if formatting
  190.         should be performed.
  191.  
  192. 2.    When you want to be sure that all disks are freshly formatted.
  193.

  195. A FINAL NOTE ABOUT FORMATTING
  196.  
  197. When it is necessary to format a diskette, POLYCOPY shells into the DOS format
  198. utility "FORMAT.COM" so it is important that you have it pathed.  For
  199. example: "PATH=C:\DOS" in you AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  235.         HEXIDECIMAL format.  For serializing large quantities of disks,
  236.         VOLSER has automatic increment, decrement and duplicating of
  237.         serial numbers.

  239.         CIR:  You will also receive the latest version of CIR, the "COLOR
  240.         DIRECTORY" utility.  This isn't just another colorized directory
  241.         program.  CIR displays directories in exactly the same format as the
  242.         MS DOS 4.01 DIR command, except that files are color coded by
  243.         extension.  Plus, CIR shows the resolution and colors for .GIF files.
  244.         CIR is FAST, too!
