- * * * Be sure to read "WHY USE EDDY", in the file EDDY.WHY! * * *
- *****************************************************
-
- EDDY has no special installation procedures. Just copy the files from
- the distribution disk, and you're ready to go.
-
- EDDY is a full-screen editor for DOS directories, and much more! Any-
- thing you'd like to do with (to) a file, directory or entire disk can
- probably be done with EDDY, and done easier than with other utilities.
-
- EDDY (for EDit DirectorY) provides the following services, and more:
-
- - EDIT directory entries, including name, date, time and attributes
- - Sort directory display by file name, extension, size or date/time
- - Compare directories and report differences
- - Select files by timestamp and/or attribute byte values
- - COPY, MOVE, DELETE and/or DESTROY files (interactive or batch mode)
- - LOOK at or PATCH data in files, disk sectors, or in your PC's memory
- - FIND (and, optionally, REPLACE) strings in files or groups of files
- - Locate files when directory not known ("Where's that file?")
- - Recover lost data
-
- Most of what EDDY does isn't new (but take a look at the EDDY.WHY file).
- The program was developed as a test of the "Build a better mousetrap..."
- theory of economics. EDDY is offered as a tool that's meant to be
- easier and more convenient to use than other programs which do similar
- things. It's cheaper, too!
-
- Complete documentation for EDDY (a 70+ page manual) is available in the
- file EDDY.DOC. It can be printed with the DOS PRINT command. EDDY.DOC
- can also be read with EDDY's own LOOK command.
-
- Most of the things you want to do take only a keystroke or two. But
- EDDY also addresses a number of problems which arise seldom but are more
- difficult to solve, if possible at all, with other utilities. For
- example, EDDY's disk patching and general data recovery capabilities are
- exceptionally useful in complex situations where "quick unerase" won't
- solve the problem. Read all about these in Sections 21 and 22.
-
- EDDY has complete, context-sensitive HELP, available by pressing <F1>.
- HELP includes all of the basic information needed to use EDDY.
-
- The simplest way to get familiar with EDDY is to just type "EDDY" and
- <Enter>. There is no danger of damage to your disk data, because no
- changes will be made to any of your directories or files unless you
- explicitly tell EDDY to do so.
-
-
-
-
- If you don't like something about EDDY, have a look at Section 24 of
- EDDY.DOC; it's likely that you can change EDDY to work the way you want.
-
- If you have an earlier release of EDDY, you should probably look at the
- file "EDDY.HST", which lists the changes by version.
-
- EDDY is distributed as shareware, without charge. EDDY and its User's
- Manual may be copied ad lib provided the author's copyright notice and
- disclaimers of warranty are reproduced in full.
-
- The program is supplied as-is. The author disclaims all warranties,
- expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of
- merchantability and the warranties of fitness for any purpose. Copies
- of the program may not be sold for more than the cost of the medium they
- are copied on, plus reasonable handling charges. The total charge may
- not exceed $10.
-
- Although EDDY is distributed in this way, it is not free. After a
- reasonable trial period, if you find EDDY to be useful and satisfactory
- to you, and you continue to use EDDY, then please consider mailing a
- usage and registration fee of $20.00 to this address:
-
- John Scofield
- 1522 West 5th St.
- San Pedro,CA 90732
- USA
-
- This low fee entitles you to technical support as described in EDDY.DOC,
- to receive one free update, subsequent updates at cost of distribution,
- and to the satisfaction of knowing you have done "the right thing".
-
- THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
