- Move File is a utility to aid you in keeping your directories in order. It
- does this by giving you a list of the files in the current directory and
- letting you pick which ones you want to move to another directory. Then it
- moves the selected files to the directory you specify.
-
- You will need to be in the directory that the program is in unless you have
- the program located in a directory that is in your PATH. By having the
- program in your PATH you can use the program in whatever directory you happen
- to be in at the time.
-
-
- Usage: C:\move [filespec.ext] [Directory-moving-to]
-
- Optional parameters:
-
- filespec.ext - You can enter the name of a specific file
- (move110.doc) or you can enter a wildcard
- pattern to search for (*.*, b*.d?c, etc ...).
- These files will already be tagged when the
- first directory screen is shown.
-
- Directory-moving-to - You can enter the directory that you are going
- to move files to (C:\docs, comm, \wp\ws, etc...).
- This will be the default choice when you are asked
- which directory to move the selected files to.
-
- NOTE: One or both of the optional parameters may be specified. If both are
- specified, the filespec.ext must be the first one entered.
-
-
- Once running, you will be shown the current directory of files, the time,
- and the date. There will be a short set of instructions in the bottom window.
- If a filespec was entered as an optional parameter these files will already
- be tagged.
-
- To mark a file for moving, position the highlight bar on your selection using
- the cursor keys and press the space bar, the "tag" will show up to the left of
- the file name. The number of files tagged count will be updated in the lower
- left corner of the middle window.
-
- To unmark a file, position the highlight bar on your selection using the cursor
- keys and press the space bar and the "tag" will be removed. The number of files
- tagged count will be updated in the lower left corner of the middle window.
-
- In the upper right corner of the middle window the total number of pages for
- the directory list and the current page are kept up to date. To switch to the
- next page press the Page Up (PgUp) key, to switch to the previous page press the
- Page Down (PgDn) key. As you switch pages the files you have marked are
- remembered and if you switch back to a page you marked a file on you will see
- the mark is still there.
-
- To tag all the files press "T" or "t". All the files across all the pages will
- be tagged.
- To clear all the tags press "C" or "c". All tags across all pages will be
- cleared.
- To change directories press "D" or "d". You will be asked for the directory you
- wish to change to.
- To exit the program either press escape (quick exit) or press enter with no
- files tagged (confirmed exit).
-
- Once you have the files for moving tagged press enter. You will be asked for
- the directory to move the files to.
- If you entered a directory as an optional parameter your choice will be shown
- on the input line. To accept this directory just press enter. If you wish to
- change your choice just type in the new directory.
- If there was no directory selected the input line will be blank. Enter the
- directory you wish to move the files to.
- Pressing enter with an empty input line or pressing escape when asked for the
- directory will return you to the file selection screen.
-
- After selecting a directory to move the files to the program will move the
- files. You will then be shown the original directory list minus the files just
- moved.
- If you moved all the files out of the directory you will be asked if you would
- like to try another directory. A selection of NO here will exit you from the
- program. If you select YES you will be prompted for the new directory and
- changed to it (the optional parameters will still be in effect and any files
- you specified for tagging will be tagged in this new directory listing).
-
-
- I hope you will find my Move File utility useful. If you do (or if you don't,
- I'm easy) find it useful and you feel that you would like to let me know, I
- will welcome any suggestions, criticisms, bug reports, letters, or if you
- wish - money (whatever you feel it's worth, $5 would be nice).
-
- If you want to let me know how you feel about the program and you feel E-mail
- is more dependable than the U.S. Mail, I regularly check these local BBS's:

- The Other Board (409) 639-5091
- Omnium Gatherum (409) 875-3990

- Many thanks to Jason Riley, the SYSOP of The Other Board, for all his help in
- debugging and his suggestions for improvements.
