  126.                The purpose of dtSearch is to help you find documents
  127.           quickly.  dtSearch does this by building an "index" of your
  128.           documents that stores location of the words in each document. 
  129.           Since you will sometimes want to search documents that you have
  130.           not indexed, dtSearch can also search without an index -- it just
  131.           takes longer.

  133.                dtSearch is easy to use.  You can access all of its features
  134.           through a simple, pull-down menu interface.  Extensive, context-
  135.           sensitive help (with hypertext cross-references) is always
  136.           available.

  138.                dtSearch can build and use document indexes, so it can
  139.           search very large collections of text very quickly -- much faster
  140.           than simple file search programs.  Using dtSearch, an indexed
  141.           search of thousands of pages of documents will only take a few
  142.           seconds.

  144.                dtSearch does more than just searching for text -- it can
  145.           search for:

  147.                *    Combinations of words, such as "apple and (pear or
  148.                     grape),"
  149.                *    Words located near other words, such as "apple within 5
  150.                     words of pear,"
  151.                *    Words located in a specific segment of a document, such
  152.                     as "@ADDRESS contains oak drive,"
  153.                *    Words that match "fuzzy" specifications, such as
  154.                     "appl*," which would match apple, application, apply,
  155.                     etc.

  157.           These search features allow you to make very specific search
  158.           requests, which can help to reduce the number of "false hits" you
  159.           get in a search.  If you are searching a large text database,
  160.           this can save you a lot of time.

  162.                dtSearch gives you unlimited searching capacity.  One
  163.           document index can store information about up to 15,000
  164.           documents, and you can have as many indexes as you need.  When
  165.           you do an indexed search, you can search multiple indexes by
  166.           simply checking off the ones you want searched.

  168.                dtSearch requires no "importing" or "conversion" of your
  169.           documents.  You simply check off the directories containing the
  170.           documents to search or index, and dtSearch will do the rest.  In
  171.           almost all cases, dtSearch does not even need to be told what
  172.           word processor you are using -- it will figure out the word

  196.           documents on network drives and can store indexes on network
  197.           drives.  dtSearch permits multiuser access to indexes stored on

  205.                     processor to edit a document retrieved in a search

  212.           type of computer, number and type of documents, and the amount of
  213.           memory available.  But to get an idea of how fast dtSearch is,

  242.                                Limits and Requirements

  244.           1.  Program limits:  Indexes
  245.                *    A single index may contain up to 15,000 documents
  246.                *    A single document may contain up to 60,000 words
  247.                     (about 300 double-spaced pages)
  248.                *    You can have up to 25 indexes in each index library,
  249.                     and you can have an unlimited number of index
  250.                     libraries.
  251.                *    You can have up to 25 macro or field definitions.
  252.                *    A noise word list can hold up to 200 words.  Words
  253.                     after the 200th word in a list will be disregarded.
  254.                *    There is no limit on the number of words in an index or
  255.                     on the number of words starting with a particular
  256.                     letter.
  257.           2.  Program limits:  Searches
  258.                *    A single search request may involve up to 100 words,
  259.                     including wildcard matches.
  260.                     For example, if an index contained 75 words beginning
  261.                     with 's' and 75 words beginning with 't', then you
  262.                     could not search for "s* or t*"
  263.                *    A search word can be up to 32 letters long.
  264.                *    A search request can be up to 180 characters long.

  266.                *    dtSearch will run on an IBM-compatible computer with at
  267.                     least 384k of memory available, a hard disk, and DOS
  268.                     version 3.2 or higher.
