- APPENDIX J
- PREDEFINED .SET AND .KEY FILES
-
- When you first get an applications program, you need to feel it out using
- Vocal-Eyes. Does it speak too much? Maybe it doesn't speak at all. You may
- need to make some adjustments in the application program such as switching
- its video output from "direct screen write" to "BIOS" or the other way
- around. Then you may need to make changes in Vocal-Eyes to get the
- application working best for you. For a good example of this process, refer
- to section 15: Putting It All Together. This uses Word Perfect as an
- example.
-
- Why should every user of Vocal-Eyes have to reinvent the wheel? We have
- included a few .SET and .KEY files on your Vocal-Eyes master diskettes.
- Because the information can be updated with new .SET and .KEY files often, we
- have elected to place all documentation on how to use these files on the
- diskette.
-
- There is a file called SETS.DOC. This file contains a list of all the .SET
- and .KEY files currently supplied on your diskettes. It also will show you
- where the documentation for each of the files is located on your diskette.
- If you wish to look at this file, type the following DOS command:
-
- TYPE SETS.DOC
-
- Don't forget to press ENTER. Assuming your default drive and path is where
- the SETS.DOC file is located, DOS will begin displaying the information on
- the screen. Of course, Vocal-Eyes will speak the information as well. If
- you find a .SET file you may be interested in using, type its documentation
- file to the screen. The documentation, will show you how to use the
- associated .SET file. The documentation file will not teach you how to use
- the applications program but it will tell you everything you need to know in
- order for Vocal-Eyes to work well with it.
-
- If you have setup a .SET environment for an application we have not included,
- feel free to send us the information. We would like to pass your information
- on to other users. Many applications do not require much work in order to
- get it to speak well. Others may take more time. Although we cannot
- possibly supply .SET environments for every applications program, we hope to
- supply the more "well known" ones.
-
- Remember, with autoloading enabled, Vocal-Eyes will automatically load the
- correct .SET, .KEY and .CHR files. You may be using our supplied
- environments without even knowing it. It is strongly suggested that you
- still look at the documentation for each .SET file. For example, we have
- supplied an environment for WordPerfect. The files are:
-
- WP.SET
- WP.KEY
- WP.DOC
-
- The .DOC file is a standard ASCII file describing some special keys you can
- use to get certain things to speak. There are going to be other environments
- aside from WordPerfect. Please read the file SETS.DOC for a complete
- up-to-date listing.
