- ST2TO3 is a quick and dirty utility to:
-
- 1) convert the layouts (up to 10 of them) from a Solitile 1.x or 2.x
- SOLITILE.DAT file into individual .LYT files for use with Solitile 3 (only
- needed if you modified or added layouts in an earlier version of Solitile)
-
- 2) If you had a WINs directory set up with an earlier version of Solitile
- (versions 2.4 through 2.8), ST2TO3 will convert those WIN directories
- into Solitile 3 "solved boards" lists in your .PLY (player configuration)
- file.
-
- NOTE: ST2TO3 *MUST* be run from the directory containing your old SOLITILE.DAT
- file. Also, Solitile 3 should be installed into its own sub-directory before
- running ST2TO3, as ST2TO3 will need to create or edit the .PLY file of your
- choice (when adding WINs), and it should exist in the Solitile 3 sub-directory.
- Therefore, the steps that should be followed to make use of this are:
-
- 1) Make sure that you know the path to Solitile 3, and the name of the
- .PLY file to which you wish for the Solitile 2 WINs to be added. (If you
- have no WINs directory set up from a previous version of Solitile, don't
- worry, everything else will work fine.)
-
- 2) CD to the directory containing the old version of Solitile (the directory
- that contains the SOLITILE.DAT file), for example:
-
- CD \games
-
- 3) Put the disk containing ST2TO3 into a drive and run ST2TO3, for example:
-
- A:ST2TO3 \games\solitile\everett.ply
-
- This example assumes that I have created a sub-directory called SOLITILE
- under the GAMES directory, and that I've already copied Solitile 3 into
- that sub-directory. It also assumes that the player configuration file
- that I want the Solitile 2 WINs added to is EVERETT.PLY, where 'EVERETT'
- is the name used by me when playing Solitile 3. If your name is Tom,
- Dick, or Harry then your .PLY filename would be TOM.PLY, DICK.PLY, or
- HARRY.PLY. Even if you didn't have a WINs directory from a previous
- version of Solitile, ST2TO3 requires a .PLY pathname as an argument (I
- told you it was a quick and dirty utility!). The .PLY file need not exist
- when ST2TO3 is run. If there are WINs to transfer to the .PLY file and
- it doesn't already exist, ST2TO3 will create it for you.
-
- 4) If you have made NO changes to layouts in your Solitile 1.x or 2.x, you
- should answer 'N' to all 'Convert this layout?' prompts (or just press
- ENTER, as the default response is 'NO'), as all previous Solitile 1.x
- and 2.x layouts are already included in the Solitile 3 distribution as
- individual .LYT files. Your .PLY file will still be created/updated
- with your Solitile 2.x WINs, even if you don't convert any layouts. If
- you did modify or create new layouts in Solitile 1.x or 2.x, then you
- should respond with 'Y' when prompted whether to convert those particular
- ones. ST2TO3 will present you with a default .LYT filename to which
- to save the layout. On previous versions of Solitile, the layout name
- could be up to 12 characters long, but are now limited to 8, due to the
- limitations of DOS file names. Because of this, ST2TO3 makes it's best
- guess at how to abbreviate the name. If you're happy with it, just press
- ENTER; if not, type in the new name (has to be a valid MS-DOS file name)
- and then press ENTER.
-
- Registered users of Solitile are welcome to call for help if they encounter
- difficulties trying to use ST2TO3. (See the file SOLITILE.DOC or the
- copyright screen of Solitile for the phone number.)
