- Here are the most often asked questions and their answers. This file is
- a temporary fix for the documentation. EZ-Reader 2.00 will be released
- with all new documentation.
-
-
- Q: I get the error message, "Unable to find CONTROL.DAT", even
- though it's in my mail packet.
-
- A: EZ-Reader is unable to find PKUNZIP or PKUNPAK. Run CONFIG and
- select Archive. If PKPAK.EXE, PKUNPAK.EXE, PKZIP.EXE, and
- PKUNZIP.EXE cannot be found via the DOS PATH command you must
- input the full pathname. For example:
-
- Zip: C:\UTIL\PKZIP.EXE
- UnZip: C:\UTIL\PKUNZIP.EXE
-
-
- Q: EZ-Reader says it can't find my editor. Why?
-
- A: EZ-Reader is set up to use the environmental variable PATH. PATH
- is set via the PATH command. If your editor is not in a
- directory listed in the PATH, you will need to supply the full
- path to the editor in the CONFIG program. Say you put the editor
- TED in the directory C:\EZ. If C:\EZ cannot be found via PATH
- you will need to supply the full path for the editor in CONFIG
- as shown:
-
- Editor: C:\EZ\TED.COM
-
-
- Q: What is a tagline?
-
- A: A tagline is a line of information appended to the end of each
- message by an off-line mail reader and the networking software
- that distributes your messages. EZ-Reader allows you to hold up
- to 50 at a time. You can store more taglines in various files
- and import them into the CONFIG file with your editor, if your
- editor allows you to import files (QEdit does, Ted doesn't). You
- can enter or modify taglines from the message information window
- by pressing the function key <F6>.
-
-
- Q: How do I edit a reply once it has been created?
-
- A: Look at the Conference menu. The second row from the top, far
- left corner has a conference named "Replies". This is where your
- replies are kept. Select this conference. Page through your
- replies till you come to the one you want to modify. Press <R>
- to reply to this reply. Don't worry, EZ-Reader knows that it is
- a reply and will preserve the header portion of the message.
- From here you can change any of the header information. Press
- <F9> and then change your reply. Your original reply will be
- marked as KILLED. You can always go back and unkill it with the
- <K>ill command.
-
-
- Q: What file contains my replies? Which one to I upload to the BBS?
-
- A: When you downloaded a Qmail packet, the packet had a special
- BBS_ID name with an extension of .QWK. EZ-Reader creates for you
- a file named BBS_ID.REP. This is the file you upload to the
- QMail or MarkMail door. If your BBS_ID is DATAWARP you will
- upload the file DATAWARP.REP. Some examples of BBS_IDs are:
- EXECNET, YOB, CHANNEL1, ESCAPE, SLEEPY, SOM, etc.
-
-
-
- Q: EZ-Reader says "Unable to Arc/Unarc file". What does this mean
- and what do I do?
-
- A: Your unarchiving program (PKZIP/PKUNZIP, PKPAK/PKUNPAK, etc)
- generated an error. Instead of trying to determine what you want
- to do EZ-Reader halts immediately to let you correct the
- situation. Generally this error occurs for two reasons. One, you
- are out of disk space. Two you don't have enough memory to load
- the archive/unarchive program. If you are out of disk space,
- then you will need to erase some files. If you are out of memory
- you need to unload some of you TSRs or try EZ-Junior. In either
- case you want to recover any replies you have generated. Your
- replies are kept in a file named BBS_ID.MSG. (See the previous
- question for a discussion of BBS_IDs.) You will need to archive
- this file and place it in your communications program's upload
- directory.
-
-
- Q: How do I use Switch!?
-
- A: For Hot Keys, the Editor, and archival programs you must place
- the character '!' in the first position. For example, to use
- switch to load the editor you would do this:
-
- !EDITOR.BAT
-
- This would save all but 12K of the program to EMS or disk before
- running the batch file EDITOR.BAT. When EDITOR.BAT has finished
- running, Switch! will reload EZReader and you will be right back
- where you started.
-
-
- Q: How do I get a large DOS shell?
-
- A: Simply define a Hot Key, such as <Alt><D>, to be the character
- string "!". A single character '!' is enough to obtain the
- largest DOS shell possible. Don't forget to type EXIT to return
- to EZReader.
-
-
- Q: How do I get the Address Book to work?
-
- A: The Address Book only works in the registered versions of EZ-
- Reader. If you have a registered version, then you need to supply
- a full filename, including the path in the config file.
