  1.         ECON: Econometric Stock Market Forecasting Models

  3. Econ forecasts S&P 500, T bond and T bill interest rates, and inflation.
  4. Once a month you enter 8 numbers and get statistically optimized
  5. forecasts for 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months in the future.

  7. There is also an asset allocation routine which tells you how much of
  8. each asset to hold with conservative and aggressive strategies.  It's
  9. a menu driven program which runs on IBM-PC and compatibles, 256K 
  10. memory needed.

  12. This software is copyrighted by DC Econometrics and all rights are
  13. reserved.  The file econ.txt is a lengthy manual, this readme.txt file
  14. is a short version to get you started fast.  Data must be entered 
  15. monthly, it is likely that your data files are not current on this
  16. disk.  When you register for $39.99 you will receive a new disk with
  17. current data files and a printed manual.

  19. The first thing to do is to make a backup copy because disks are
  20. fragile.
  21.  
  22.           To make backup to floppy disk:  
  23.  
  24.                1.  Boot up in MS-DOS
  25.                2.  When you get the A> prompt type: diskcopy
  26.                
  27.                    The DOS disk may need to be in the A drive
  28.                    if you have no hard disk.  The computer will
  29.                    respond:
  30.                    Insert SOURCE diskette in drive A:
  31.                
  32.                3.  Insert the ECON disk and press any key
  33.                4.  When it asks for TARGET disk, insert a blank
  34.                    diskette.
  35.                5.  Verify that the following files are located on
  36.                    your TARGET disk:

  38.                     ECON.EXE            UNEMP
  39.                     SP500               CPI
  40.                     TBILL               SPPEM
  41.                     TBOND               SPDIVM
  42.                     PRIME               ISTYR
  43.                     ECON.TXT            README.TXT

  45.           To make backup to hard disk:
  46.  
  47.                1.  Boot up in MS-DOS
  48.                2.  Put SOURCE diskette in drive A
  49.                3.  Create a directory on the hard disk
  50.                     mkdir \econ
  51.                4.  Copy files to hard disk
  52.                     copy a:*.*  c:\econ
  53.                5.  Verify that the following files are located in
  54.                    the directory:

  57.                     SP500               CPI
  58.                     TBILL               SPPEM
  59.                     TBOND               SPDIVM
  60.                     PRIME               ISTYR
  61.                     ECON.TXT            README.TXT

  63.     Running the Program

  65.                1.  Boot up in MS-DOS
  66.                2.  Insert the ECON disk into the floppy drive or
  67.                    move to the \econ directory (cd \econ)
  68.                3.  Type: ECON   (and press Enter)
  69.                4.  The program will load, and the shareware
  70.                    message will come up.  Press return.  You
  71.                    will then see a list of options for output
  72.                    devices.  I usually choose 1 for screen,
  73.                    or 2 for printer.
