- Late information on B.A.M v3.00
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Here is some further information that was not included in the
- supplied manual documentation.
-
-
- 1) If you set up the BAM environment variable (and you are strongly urged to
- do so), all data files will be stored in that directory, even if you start the
- program from another directory. When you choose the "Load new Files" option
- from the Main Menu, the program will look for the files in the BAM directory.
- If they do not exist, they will be created in the BAM directory.
-
- 2) The configuration program will not add the environment variable to your
- AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you must do so manually. To do this, enter your favorite
- editor and load the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Then add the line:
-
- Set BAM = C:\BAM\
-
- (This assumes you are running a Hard Disk based system, with the Hard Disk
- being C:, note how you need to include the trailing backslash!)
-
- 3) The manual does not explain the use of the Adapter Types as fully as it
- should. If you have a VGA/EGA display adapter, and wish to use one of the
- "extended" video heights (such as 21, 28, 43/50), you should tell configure
- the adapter to be of the appropriate type, and then set the Video Height to
- the height you wish.
-
- If you leave the adapter as "Default", then the program will automatically
- sense the mode you are in, and use that mode. Therefore, if you are using an
- EGA/VGA in 43/50 mode, the program will remain in that mode when it starts.
-
- CGA and Monochrome adapters can not support extended video modes, and you
- will thus be unable to change the video height settings for these adapters.
- Again, if you leave the adapter configuration as "Default" these adapters will
- be automatically sensed.
-
- 4) If you have configured the program to use a specific video height, when you
- enter a DOS shell, the program will restore the initial video mode before
- shelling. When you return from the shell, the video mode will then be reset to
- the program's configured video mode.
-
- Therefore, if your regular DOS video mode is 25 lines, and you have
- configured the program to use a 43 line mode, you will be switched back to the
- 25 line mode upon a DOS shell, and then back to 43 lines when you return.
-
- 5) When running the DOS shell, ensure that you either have EMS available or
- sufficient disk space to support the swap image. If the following conditions
- exist at the same time:
-
- a) No EMS/not enough EMS available
- b) No disk space/not enough disk space
- c) Not enough memory
-
- In this case, the program will be unable to perform the shell command, and
- will return to the main menu. Otherwise, only .8K of the program will remain
- of memory, giving you nearly all available RAM!
-
- 6) In order to see the full functionality of the Help system, enter the help
- system. (By either choosing "Help" from the Main Menu, or <F1> at any other
- time) If you use the <F1> method, press <F1> once more. You should now see the
- "Help Topics". Choose "Help on Help" to find out what you may do within the
- help system.
