- INTRODUCTORY COMMENTS
- Writing the cover letter requires the user to only prepare
- the narrative part. The purpose of entering the names of
- companies, positions, addresses, sources, and the user's
- name and address in the files is to automate the letter
- printing, without the necessity of duplicating data al-
- ready in the files. The same letter can then be sent to
- all the Companies in your position files.

- COVER LETTER CONTENT
- The narrative in an example letter might read like this:
- I submit my resume in response to the above advertisement.
- My experience and education have prepared me for this kind
- of opportunity, as you can see from my resume.
- I'l call you on Tuesday, July 23, for an appointment. I'm
- very eager to show you what I can do for your firm.
- Sincerely,
- Joe Jobseeker

- COVER LETTER LENGTH
- Cover letters may be longer than a page. However, the
- address blocks, and salutation and subject blocks are
- set to allow only a short letter that looks "balanced"
- on the page. Print a cover letter you have prepared to
- see what the optimum narrative length of your letter is.

- TYPES OF COVER LETTERS
- 1. Without salary information as in example.
- 2. With salary information. Merely add a line to the
- example letter such as: My current salary is $50,
- annually, with a 10% annual performance bonus.
- 3. Focus on your specific occupation or current job.

- MANAGE COVER LETTER NAMES & TYPES
- The naming and typing of cover letters is done to allow the
- user to quickly and easily pick a letter from the scrolling
- cover letter table. This is the table that pops up in the
- print option, when printing either to all companies or to
- selected companies. Thus, it is important to give "name"
- and "type" identifications to cover letters.

- Write a Cover Letter
- Pg. 7 of 8
- COVER LETTER NAME
- Cover letters may focus on specific strengths or skills.
- Name a cover letter after the skill you are emphasizing.
- For example, you may have skills as an accountant and as
- a programmer. Thus, you make two cover letters:
- PROGCOVER
- ACCTCOVER
- ESC to Exit
- Page Down for More
- Write a Cover Letter
- Pg. 8 of 8
- COVER LETTER TYPE
- After naming a cover letter you will want to know, as a
- minimum, whether it contains salary information or not.
- Thus, you will probably want at least two versions of each
- cover letter you write: with and without salary history.
- For the cover letters named on page 7, you would name and
- type them as follows:
- Cover Letter Name
- Cover Letter Type
- PROGCOVER
- WITHSAL
- PROGCOVER
- NOSAL
- ACCTCOVER
- WITHSAL
- ACCTCOVER
- NOSAL
