Transcription: Cleanliness. Ancient Egyptians were very concerned with cleanliness. They trimmed their hair and nails frequently. Egyptians bathed in the Nile River or in irrigation canals. Wealthy people bathed daily in water that their tenants carried from the river. Egyptians washed themselves with soda, not soap. The soda that they used was much like the baking soda used today in cakes and cookies. Soda cleans well, but it leaves skin dry. Everyone used lotions to soften their skin.
