DESCRIPTION: A small loon with a slender uptilted bill. Summer adults with a dark grey head, red throat patch and brown back. Winter birds are dark grey above, whitish below. Uptilted bill separates it from the Common and Pacific Loons. Its small size and slender bill distinguish it from the Yellow Billed Loon.
HABITAT: In summer freshwater ponds and lakes mainly on tundra. In winter favours seacoasts.
NESTING: Two olive and brown eggs in a ground depression or a heap of vegatation.
