This application lets you control the Z-order (layering) of application windows. There are many ways to make use of this functionality. One example is to keep a commonly used application window on top so that it is always accessible and never falls behind other windows.
ZMover anchors its icon in the system tray which, by default, is located at the bottom right of your desktop, and contains the system clock. You may invoke the application menu by right-clicking on the icon.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Simply drag the icon corresponding to the desired action, and drop it onto the targeted window.
You can make that action happen automatically when the window first appears on the desktop by adding it to ZMover's memory.
MENU
- Show/Hide: Toggle the visibility of the application window.
- Help: Display this window.
- About ZMover: Display information about this product.
- Close: Exit the application.
APPLICATION WINDOW
Moving tools:
- Top: Keep the window on top of all the others.
- Normal: Void the Top and Bottom actions.
- Bottom: Move the window behind all the others.
Last target: This field displays the title of the last window acted upon. The window's title is preceded by the first letter of the action in parentheses. For example, if the last window was moved to the top, the prefix (T) is placed before the title.
- Hide: Hide the application window.
- Help: Display this window.
- Remember: Toggle the memory section.
REMEMBER SECTION:
If you want to have a top level window moved automatically when it first appears on the desktop, just add an item to ZMover's memory with the window's title and the layer to which that window should be moved.
Memory: List of remembered windows. Each window is preceded by the first letter of the action in parentheses. Use the checkbox before each item to toggle whether it is active or not.
- Add Last: Add the last window acted upon to memory.
- Add: Add an undefined window to the memory list. You can define the window
by modifying the Description, Title, and Position fields.
- Remove: Remove the currently selected memory item.
- Test: Test the selected memory item.
Memory Definition: These fields correspond to the selected memory item.
- Description: An easy to understand user-defined description. The description text does not
affect the action.
- Title: ZMover will act on windows whose title contains an occurance of this string according
to the following criteria:
- The string starts with "<": The rest of it has to occur at the beginning of the window title.
- The string starts with ">": The rest of it has to occur at the end of the window title.
- Otherwise, it can occur anywhere in the window title.
- Position: The layer to which the window should be moved.
- Apply: Apply the changes you've made to the memory item.
TIPS
- Double-clicking the icon in the system tray toggles the visibility of the application window.
- You can cancel while dragging by pressing the right mouse button.
- If the drop target is not a top level window (main, dialog or pop-up window), its top level owner is moved by default.
- Press the Shift key while dropping to move the application main window of the drop target.
- Press the Control key while dropping to move the drop target specifically.
- Top and Bottom work slightly differently. Top keeps the targeted window on top until you make it normal again. Bottom moves the targeted window to the bottom, but does not force it to stay there.
- Multiple windows that are placed on the top layer will interact among themselves as if they were not topmost windows. To avoid this, use ZMover to move the less important windows to the normal level.
- Results may vary from one application to another depending on the design of the host application.
EXAMPLES
You use a word processing program with its window maximized (full screen), and would like to keep a clock application on top of your document all the time:
1- From ZMover, drag the "Top" icon and drop it onto the clock window.
2- Now the clock is always on top of your word processor, even when the word processor is the active window.
Now you decide to have the clock automatically be on top whenever it is displayed:
1- Press the Remember button to expand ZMover if needed.
