The Union recently spent ú750,000 on redevelopment and now the facilities are hot as a stolen volcano.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]SU FACILITIES:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]In the Barnes Wallis Building (named after the Michael Redgrave look-alike who invented the bouncing bomb and who was immortalised in the 'The Dambusters'), UMIST Union offers 2 bars, a general shop, travel bureau, print shop, cafe, dark room, TV rooms, Barclay's cash point, women's room, t-shirt printing service, showers and pool tables.[HDNG]CLUBS (NON SPORTING):[EHDNG][PARA]Students are also entitled to join [ULNE]University of Manchester[EULNE] clubs and societies and vice versa.[PARA]Bangladesh; Battle Re-enactment; Celtic; Choice (encourages locals to apply to universities); Gilbert and Sullivan; Film; Gilbert and Sullivan; Hiking; Hippy Club; Indie; International Society; Iranian; Juggling; Malaysian; Medics Revue; Muslim Human Rights; Norwegian; Role Playing; Rhythm and Blues; Motor; Role Playing; Tarts (promotes safer sex).[HDNG]OTHER ORGANISATIONS:[EHDNG][PARA]The Union publishes the student fortnightly newspaper 'GRIP' (which has a sabbatical editor) and the weekly 'Update' (purely Union-related info sheet). Jointly, with [ULNE]Manchester University[EULNE], Campus Radio is applying for a broadcasting licence. UMIST charity rag is part of MASS Rag (along with [ULNE]Salford University[EULNE]) which last year raised ú60,000. Among other self-inflicted lunacy, the Rag organises the annual Bogle Stroll, a 55-mile sponsored walk.
