Of the Union's 2 [ITAL]airport lounge-like[EITAL] bars, 1 is non-smoking.[PARA][BOLD]Theatres:[EBOLD] (3) 2 of the theatres are temporary spaces used for between 1 and 3 weeks a term. The 3rd is The Nuffield, a professional theatre used once a year by students.[PARA][BOLD]Cinemas:[EBOLD] The recent screenings from the award-winning Union Films have included Falling Down and Like Water for Chocolate. It's a[ITAL] very active[EITAL] club with regular cult movie nights.[PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos:[EBOLD] Every Friday the Union gives itself up to 'The Beehive' (adm ú1) - indie, soul, rave and disco in the ballroom (cap 400), which also hosts regular live gigs. The University's largest venue is the West Refectory (800) for a whole mound of live sound. There are 3 other bars and rooms, all with capacities under 250 and the Turner Sims Concert Hall.[PARA][BOLD]Cabaret: [EBOLD]Most Sundays, there's a snicker sesh, courtesy of Hattie Hayridge, Stevie Starr and the like.[PARA][BOLD]Recent band appearances:[EBOLD] Curve, St Etienne, Megadog.[PARA][BOLD]Others:[EBOLD] Cafes and jazz evenings, debates and speakers, and there's always a party to crash. Every year, there are at least 6 black tie balls, [ITAL]but at ú20-30 a ticket, and no free booze, it gets beyond the means of many[EITAL].[HDNG]EATING OUT:[EHDNG][PARA]For a bite and bit of idle banter the places to go are the University's 2 refectories (feeding 1,000 for a long lunch and early dinner) and the Union coffee bar open all day, every day. There's also a bistro being planned, for healthier tucker. But for those who fancy a change from institutional nosh, there are local pubs[ITAL] worth taking an empty gullet to[EITAL]. The restaurants offer plenty of choice from French haute cuisine to imported ambience in Mexicans and Italians. [PUSH]push[EPUSH][ITAL]'s top tips are La Brasserie (exquisite French food at rock bottom prices), Fatty Arbuckle's, Ghengis Khan's (Mongolian), Alice's Mex Tex (to stuff you silly). Cafes are not so good, mainly stodge food at middling prices. [EITAL] There are various late pit stops all over the shop. [ITAL]Students could do worse than kebabs in Bedford Place or curry at the Dhaka[EITAL] until 4am.[PARA][PARA]
