The Pegasus Theatre is on the fringe in [PARA]every sense with experimental productions and a bit of a trek to [PARA]get there. It also shows student productions.[PARA][BOLD]Pubs:[EBOLD][ITAL] Although expensive, Oxford's pubs have the same [PARA]ubiquitous old world charm and the advantage of not being [PARA]exclusively peopled by students. It would be unfair not to mention[PARA]a few of Oxford's most studenty haunts, although it's also unfair [PARA]to mention only these: The King's Arms ('The K.A.' as it's [PARA]affectionately known) almost in the grounds of Wadham College;[PARA]The Bear (full of sporty hearties); The Apollo (gay): The Royal [PARA]Oak; The Turf; The Wheatsheaf; The Ampney; The Eagle and [PARA]Child (CS Lewis and Tolkien used to quaff there) and The White [PARA]Horse (especially popular with Trinity). [EITAL] Local brews: Morrells and [PARA]Morland Bitters, Varsity, Graduate and College. [ITAL]Avoid: The [PARA]Bulldog, The Chequers (anti-student).[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos: [EBOLD]The Park End Club [ITAL]is possibly the principal student[PARA]night spot outside the colleges[EITAL]. Oxford Venue has regular Indie [PARA]and Techno nights, but it does cost a fiver[ITAL]. [EITAL]The Coven [ITAL]is okay [PARA]once in a lifetime and [EITAL]Club Latino [ITAL]has its Sol-slurping fans.[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Music venues: [EBOLD]James and The Hollies appeared at The Apollo not[PARA]so long ago,[ITAL] but it can't be relied upon to produce hit bands [PARA]regularly. [EITAL]The Jericho Tavern[ITAL], although smaller, constantly turns [PARA]out excellent if less well-known bands [EITAL](A House, etc).[ITAL] In quest of[PARA]quality noise, students also check out the Old Fire Station and, [PARA]especially, the Oxford Venue mentioned earlier. The Headington Bar (cap [PARA]850), being the only place to smoke is very smoky and sleazy, [PARA]but the new SU building on this site, due to open in September [PARA]1995, should improve things. Morals (540), a smart new bar in [PARA]Morrell hall, is used more by students in the halls.[PARA][BOLD]Theatres:[EBOLD] The University has a drama room where students [PARA]stage 6 or so productions a year, sending 2 shows last year to [PARA]the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.[PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos/music venues:[EBOLD] Twice a week in Morals, and [PARA]Fridays in the Headington,[ITAL] the decks are spun for your [PARA]delectation. [EITAL]Also, regular gigs here.[PARA][BOLD]Others:[EBOLD] Clubs and societies usually hold events on a Monday [PARA]night and there are lots of other regular ents such as multicultural [PARA]evenings, karaoke, beer festivals and 3 balls (Freshers', [PARA]Christmas, Summer).[HDNG]EATING OUT:[EHDNG][PARA][BOLD]Headington:[EBOLD] The University's refectory refects at lunchtime and [PARA]early evenings, but having been refurbished, it may now be [PARA]smart, but is expensive too.
