The College is only 600 yards from Carfax, but it's hidden to a certain extent from the swarms of tourists. The social scene rotates around the Beer Cellar, a refurbished medieval cave attracting students from all over Oxford. New College (full name, never just 'New') students come from a wide geographical and social cross-section, [ITAL]with a leftish slant[EITAL].[PARA][PARA]Bar (cap 200); classical music in Anglican chapel; bops in the Long Room (200). [ITAL]Strong music and theatre.[EITAL] Library (70,000 books and 30,000 antiquarian items); 5 computers. 14 acres of playing fields on site; [ITAL]particularly strong in Women's sports (rowing, football, rugby)[EITAL]. All 1st and 2nd years live in plus 30% of finalists. All students eat in halls; weekly formal dinner in college hall; not much self catering. Nurse.
