[HDNG]UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM UNION:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]P5[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] 5 sabbatical [BULL] Turnout at last ballot: 29% [BULL] NUS member [ESTAT][PARA][ITAL]UNU is a very moderate union; [EITAL]one of the delegates to last year's NUS conference went on the Christian Union ticket[ITAL]. Its political role in student life is something like that of a door handle on a door - an essential part of the thing, but hardly the major feature. The award-winning University Radio Nottingham is one of the oldest ([ITAL]and best[EITAL]) student radio stations in the country. Also Karnival, the charity rag, is the country's biggest money raisers, raising ú100,000 last year. The University's tremendously successful Community Action group involves nearly 1,500 students in 75 projects and [ITAL]can claim some responsibility for the excellent student community relations.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA][ITAL][STAT][BULL] 8 chaplains (CofE, RC, Methodist, Baptist, Jewish, Muslim).[ESTAT][EITAL][PARA]There's a chapel and Muslim prayer room in the Portland Building. Locally, the city offers churches for most Christian denominations and worship shops for Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, Hindus and Buddhists.[HDNG]PAID WORK:[EHDNG][PARA]Apart from the usual money scrambles, students have been known to sell themselves as guinea pigs at the medical school (ú120 for 3 days) and to work at the Pork Farms factory on night shifts (ú500 a week).[PARA][PARA]
