- SCRAMBLED OVERVIEW
-
- Scrambled divides a specified picture into pieces and then scrambles
- the picture so the pieces are placed at random. The objective of
- Scrambled is to place picture pieces in their proper locations to
- form the image of the original picture. There are two modes of play
- in Scrambled. The modes are Puzzle mode and Slider mode. The game
- ends when all the pieces are in their proper locations. The pieces
- are moved by first clicking on the piece you want to move and then
- clicking on the location you want to move it to.
-
- You can choose any one of the pictures provided or you can use your
- own pictures. Pictures that are too large to fit in the puzzle area
- are reduced in size to fit. Pictures that are too small to divide
- into puzzle pieces can not be used. This program supports bitmaps,
- gifs and jpegs. The corresponding file extensions are bmp, gif and
- jpg.
-
- The number of pieces that can be used is dependent on the picture's
- dimensions. The amount of sizes to choose from is also dependent on
- the picture's dimensions. This program uses a picture's dimensions and
- determines the different amounts of pieces it can be divided into. For
- larger pictures there may be 12 or more different sizes to choose from.
-
- You can pause this program at any time by minimizing it.
-
- GETTING HELP
-
- There are two ways to get to this document from within the program.
- You can select Contents from within the Help menu or you can press the
- F1 key. If you can not find the help you need in this document you can
- send an email to hadwen@reach.net

-
- USING THE FILE MENU
-
- STARTING A NEW GAME
-
- Starting a new game causes the picture pieces to be scrambled.
- The pieces are placed at random locations. The puzzle size
- remains the same.
-
- PUZZLE
-
- In this mode the objective is to try to unscramble the picture
- by switching the pieces around. Simply click on the piece you
- want to move and then click the piece you want to switch it
- with. To start a new puzzle game select the New option and
- then select Puzzle. You could also press the F5 key.
-
- SLIDER
-
- This mode is harder than the puzzle mode. There is one empty
- space and you can only move a piece by sliding the piece in the
- empty space. Only pieces that are directly above, below, right
- or left of the space can be moved into the space. The
- objective is to unscramble the picture by sliding pieces into
- the empty space. As pieces are moved into the empty space a
- new space is left in its place. Select the New game option and
- then select Slider to start a new Slider game. You could also
- press the F6 key.
-
- It takes longer to scramble a picture in slider mode because
- the picture must be scrambled in such a way that is always
- solvable.
-
- LOADING A GAME
-
- To load the last saved game select the Load option from the file
- menu or press F7. Once the load option has been selected the last
- saved game will be loaded. If the picture that was used during the
- last game has been moved or removed it will not be able to load the
- saved game.
-
- SAVING CURRENT GAME
-

- can also hold down the Ctrl key and the X key at the same time to
- exit.

- -----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- CHANGING VIEWS
-
- There are two view modes in Scrambled. You can view the original
- picture or you can view the puzzle pieces. To change the current view
- select the Puzzle/Original option from the View menu. If you are
- viewing the Puzzle the Original option will be shown and vice versa.

- picture is not already in the list it will appear at the bottom of
- the list. The list holds a maximum of 22 pictures. If the maximum
- number of pictures in the list has been reached you can use the
- Picture List Editor to remove a picture from the list before adding
- a new picture to the list.
-

- from the Picture menu. Once the Edit list option has been selected

-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- CHANGING THE PUZZLE SIZE
-
- Changing the puzzle size changes the number of pieces that are used.
- The amount of sizes available is dependent on the picture's dimensions.
- To select a new size first select the Size menu. Once the Size menu
- has been selected you can select one of the listed sizes. Selecting a
- new size will quit the current game. Click on the picture or use the
- New Game option from the File menu to start a new game.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- USING THE PREFERENCES MENU
-
- CHANGING THE COLORS
-
- Selecting the Color option from the Preferences menu allows you to
- change the background color, the selection color and the hint
- color. When one of the options is selected a window will be opened
- that contains the colors you may choose from. Click on the color
- you want and press the OK button when done. Press Cancel if you do
- not wish to change the color.
-
- When a puzzle piece is selected it is highlighted. Changing the
- Selection color changes the color used to highlight the selection.
- If the Hint option is selected from the help Menu the pieces that
- are not in the correct position are highlighted using the Hint
- color. Changing the Hint color changes the color used to highlight
- pieces in incorrect positions.
-
- ENABLING/DISABLING SOUND
-
- Selecting the Sound option from the Preferences menu will cause a
- list of the sound effects used by this program to be displayed.
- The sound effects are Intro, Move, and End. To turn a specific
- sound effect on/off select the specific sound from the Sound list.
- For example when the program is first started some music is played
- during the introduction. To stop this music from playing next time
- deselect the Intro sound option.
-
- SAVING PREFERENCES
-
- To save the selected preferences make sure the Save option is
- selected from the Preferences menu. Selecting the Save option from
- the Preferences menu turns it on/off. Saving preferences causes

- program.
-

- Select the About option to obtain a brief description about the
- program. Selecting the Contents option will open up this
- document, you could also press F1. Selecting the Puzzle or Slider
- option from the Help menu will provide specific information about
- playing in the specified mode. If you are stuck and need a hint,
- select the Hint option. Selecting the Hint option or pressing the F2
- key will tell you what pieces are out of place. If you are in Puzzle
- mode selecting the Hint option again without moving will move the last
- selected piece to its proper location. Currently the hints for Slider
- mode are limited to showing what pieces are out of place.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- PICTURE LIST EDITOR
-
- The Picture List Editor allows you to add or remove items from the
- picture list. It also allows you to view pictures.
-
- ADDING/REMOVING PICTURES
- To add a picture to the Picture List you must select a picture from

- button. Once the Add button has been selected the selected file
- will be added to the Pictures List. Files are checked to make
- sure they are valid and big enough to use before they are added.
-
- To remove a picture from the Pictures List select the file you wish
- to remove and then press the Remove button. To move a picture to a
- different location within the Picture List select the picture you
- wish to move and drag it to another location. Holding the mouse
