  9. AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION

  11. Unzip stil98g.zip file to temporary folder and double click on setup.exe.

  17. If you have never used Stiletto 32 bit:
  18.  
  19. To install Stiletto, first UnZip the stil98g.zip file into a temporary
  20. directory, then unzip stilinsf.zip from there into a fresh directory which
  21. will serve as your main Stiletto directory.  You can delete the stilinsf.zip
  22. file and temporary directory when you are done.
  23.  
  24. If you have trouble unzipping stilinsf.zip on your system, rename it
  25. to stilinsf.exe and double click on it
  26.

  28. If you are already using Stiletto 32 bit: 
  29.  
  30. To install, first make a backup copy of your Stiletto directory, then
  31. shut down any running Stiletto bars. Wait 15 seconds. UnZip the stil98g.zip 
  32. file into a temporary directory, then unzip stilinsf.zip from there 
  33. into your current Stiletto directory, overwriting all files there.  
  34. You can delete the stilinsf.zip file when you are done.

  36. If you used Stiletto 16 bit:

  38. To install Stiletto, first unzip the stil98g.zip file into a temporary
  39. directory, then unzip stilinsf.zip from there into a fresh directory which
  40. will serve as your main Stiletto directory.  You can delete the stilinsf.zip
  41. file and temporary directory when you are done.

  43. You can copy the stiletto.ini file from your 16 bit Stiletto directory to
  44. the main Stiletto directory to re-use your configuration.

  46. Note:  file stilinsf.zip is actually a self extracting exe file renamed to 
  47. .zip for greater compatibility with setup.exe and with manual installation.

  50. To Start Stiletto:

  52. Double click on Stiletto.exe to run the program.  Double click on
  53. stiletto.hlp for help.

  56. If you find Stiletto useful, you will probably want to put it in
  57. your StartUp group so that Stiletto starts automatically with Windows.

  59. For Win95/NT 4, use the Info tab on the configuration dialog to do this; 
  60. you activate the configuration dialog by ctrl+left click on the button bar.

  65. To de-install Stiletto, remove it from your StartUp group and erase the
  66. directory containing Stiletto.

  71. Stiletto is intended for people who want a button bar task
  72. switcher/launcher and clock/calendar which takes little
  73. desktop space and which lets them use any mouse
  74. button to run a command.  Stiletto includes menus, hot keys, alarms, task
  75. scheduling, sounds, screen saver, and wallpaper control: it handles
  76. all your desktop needs using a single consistent but
  77. unobtrusive interface.

  80.     A small-footprint button bar launcher
  81.         (e.g. fits over title bar of maximized window).
  82.     Use of any mouse button to launch commands.
  83.     Drag and drop files to start commands.
  84.     Up to 50 user-configurable command launch menus with submenus.
  85.     Multiple button bars (through multiple instances and configurations).
  86.     Floating button bar, choice of many resolution-independent standard
  87.         positions, or place in active window caption.
  88.     Direct access to start menu or other desktop
  89.         shell groups and their commands.
  90.     Hot key, tap key, and screen corner activation of commands.
  91.     Hot keys which depend on the active program.
  92.     Activate commands by mouse actions including press and hold, 
  93.         click caption, horizontal/vertical movements.
  94.     Show menus from hot keys, mouse actions.
  95.     Menu subsections which are displayed only if a given program is active.
  96.     Display menus built dynamically from folder contents.
  97.     Switch to or close any active task, from a button bar or a menu.
  98.     Text label, icon, clock, date, timer, or resource display on any button.
  99.     Built-in commands for screen saver,  windows exit/restart,
  100.          browsing and running files (with history), moving the button bar,
  101.          playing sounds, and others.
  102.     Control of Caps Lock/Shift and Scroll Lock.
  103.     Scrolling with the middle mouse.
  104.     Tray minimization.
  105.     Virtual desktops.
  106.     Alarms, regular chimes, and scheduled activation/termination of commands.
  107.     Wallpaper display and switcher/randomizer.
  108.     Save and restore desktop icon positions.
  109.     Screen saver switcher/randomizer.
  110.     Randomization and testing of system and application sounds.
  111.     Send a sequence of keys to a running program or
  112.        to a program that you start with Stiletto.
  113.     Tool tip (balloon) help to display the commands for any button.

  116. Stiletto is intended to supplement the Win95/NT 4 shell by providing
  117. quick, minimal-mouse click access to your most used commands
  118. while taking up little desktop space, and to provide utilities
  119. related to Windows start-up and time, all in one consistent
  120. package.
