  17. What is CLOSER:
  18.  
  19.     A small program that adds 7 icons (buttons): Minimize all, Maximize
  20. all, Close all WINDOWS, and Shutdown...allowing 1-click rapid
  21. start up or shut down of all your running programs (and the computer).
  22. Instant telnet, MSDOS prompt launcher and explorer tree view are also
  23. optionally displayed at the "click" of a button.

  25. How to use CLOSER:
  26.  
  27.     Create a shortcut to the closer.exe file in your StartUp folder to
  28. load the buttons every time you restart.  This folder is usually
  29. located:  MyComputer\c:\windows\Start Menu\StartUp
  30.  
  31. To get the options window back, RightClick on an icon.  Options can
  32. also be set in the "closer.ini" file.  The options are auto-saved when
  33. you exit.
  34.  
  35. WINDOWS BUTTONS:
  36.  
  37.     The global window control buttons available are the same as on
  38. the title bar of standard windows.  They are made availabe in the
  39. Win95 taskbar tray by checking the associated box.
  40.  
  41. Ignoring Applications:
  42.     You can make the global buttons ignore certain applications by
  43. adding them to the list of "Applications to Ignore".
  44.     If the application doesn't have a titlebar or you are unsure what
  45. it is called then press "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" ONCE.  Locate it in the list
  46. and hit cancel.  You need only enter a subset of the name to make
  47. Closer recognize it, for example:
  48.     On my taskbar, Eudora is listed as: "Eudora Light - [In]"
  49. But I only need to enter: "eudora" in Closer.  Closer will match
  50. the sub-string for you.  Commas are used to delimit different
  51. programs.

  53. SHUTDOWN:
  54.  
  55.     The shutdown button allows one-click shutdown of the computer
  56. and optionally takes you to the standard windows shutdown menu.
  57.  
  58. QUICK EXPLORER:
  59.  
  60.     The explorer function lets you start an MSDOS box or explorer
  61. window in the directory specified on the pop-up menu option you
  62. selected.  You may want to ignore certain slower network and
  63. floppy drives for speed.  Right-click on the explorer button to
  64. display the pop-up menu of directory choices.

  66. MS-DOS PROMPT:
  67.  
  68.     This button allows you to launch an MS-DOS prompt with lots
  69. of options.  This is useful for quickly doing file handling
  70. operations.

  72. QUICK TELNET:
  73.  
  74.     This lets you specify the telnet sites and telnet program.
  75. The sites you add will appear on every menu for Closer when you
  76. right-click on a button.

  78. PERFORMING OPERATIONS FROM THE COMMAND-LINE:

  80. Closing all applications then quiting:
  81.     If you just want Closer to close all apps and quit run:
  82.        "closer /x"
  83. Note: invisible/tray applications will not be closed.
  84.  
  85. Shutting down the computer:
  86.        "closer /k"   - to shutdown
  87.        "closer /ka"  - to shutdown and "no prompt" on frozen applications
  88.        "closer /kab" - to shutdown and "no prompt" and "reboot"
  89.  
  90. Minimizing all applications:
  91.        "closer /m"   - to minimize all apps and quit
  92.  
  93. CAUTION for critical data files:
  94.  
  95.     Most programs presenting Info screens advising you to protect your
  96. data or confirm shut down before exiting are still operational with
  97. CLOSER...and appear in order if you click on Close All.
  98.  
  99.     If you have any critical programs where accidental Exit may lose
  100. important data, be sure to test Closer with a dummy file open
  101. first...just to be sure your reminder screen is functioning.

  103. FAQ:
  104.     Q: "How do I adjust the properties of the MS-DOS box that appears?"
  105.     A: Click on the upper left "MS-DOS" icon of an open box and select
  106.        properties.
  107.     Q: "Why don't the buttons always pop back up?"
  108.     A: Blame it on win95 not telling my program you let go of the mouse.
