  2. The indispensable tool to process Windows icons
  3.

  5. INTRODUCTION
  6. ------------
  7. Icons Control 95 is designed to display as many icons/images as possible
  8. (32x32 thumbnail size) in a 10x10 grid for quick browsing. Icons/images 
  9. can be copied, renamed, moved, and erased with a click of the mouse. 
  10. Hardcopy of icons can be printed on any printer supported by Windows. 
  11. Icons Control 95 can even display icons embedded inside DLL or EXE files. 
  12. Displayed icons can be edited, converted to bitmaps, or extracted to ICO 
  13. format (in the DLL or EXE viewing mode).  In addition, you can convert
  14. from about different image formats (inluding BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, 
  15. PCX, WPG, MacPaint, etc.) of any size to ICO with a single mouse click. 
  16. Conversion and extraction can be done in batch mode, thus saving a 
  17. considerable amount of time for those of you with large number of icons 
  18. to process. Furthermore, any portion of the screen can be captured into 
  19. an icon or bitmap. For those of you who have access to TWAIN devices 
  20. (i.e. scanners, digital cameras, etc.), you can even scan image of any 
  21. size directly into icons.  For a complete description of Icons Control 
  22. 95, please refer to the help file accessible by clicking on the Help 
  23. icon from outside as well as inside the program.

  52. INSTALLATION
  53. ------------
  54. Run SETUP.EXE from the Explorer.  You will be asked to enter a folder to 
  55. install Icons Control 95 (default is c:\Program Files\Icons Control 95).

  59. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
  60. ------------------------------
  61. * Any computer running Windows 95.
  62. * A standard VGA (a Windows-accelerated graphic board is recommended).
  63. * A mouse or trackball.
  64. * Any printer supported by Windows (optional).
  65. * Sound blaster card or compatible (optional).

  67. Icons Control 95 has been developed and tested on a 150 MHz Pentium-based 
  68. machine with 32 MB of RAM, a 2 MB VRAM Diamond Stealth Video 3200 with the 
  69. same above settings.

  71. Icons Control 95 was also tested on the following computers:

  73. 1) 100 MHz PCI Pentium-based computer with 16 MB of RAM and a 1 MB PCI 
  74.    Diamond Stealth SE.
  75. 2) 150 Mhz PCI Pentium-based computer with 32 MB of RAM and a 2 MB VRAM 
  76.    Diamond Stealth Video 3200 (S3-968) under the above resolutions and 
  77.    color depth modes.
  78. 3) IBM P5-133 with 32 MB or RAM and a 1MB PCI Diamond Stealth DRAM (S3-764).
  79. 4) AST Bravo LC 4/33s with 8MB of RAM and a 512K ATI video card.
  80. 5) Sharp PC-9050 notebook computer with 32 MB RAM and a 2 MB VRAM PCI 
  81.    Trident (9660/9680/938X) linear accelerator.

  85. 2) HP LaserJet 5L.
  86. 3) Brother HL-720.
  87. 4) NEC SuperScript 660plus.
  88. 5) Canon BJC-610.

  129. SUPPORTED IMAGE FILE FORMATS
  130. ----------------------------
  131. Icons Control 95 was developed using LEAD Technologies LEADTOOLS
  132. ActiveX Professional imaging toolkit.  Below is the list of image 
  133. file formats which Icons Control 95 supports:
  134.  
  135. LEAD.   This is the LEAD CMP compressed format for grayscale and 
  136.     color images.
  137.  
  138. JFIF.   This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with full color 
  139.      spacing (YUV 4:4:4).
  140.  
  141. LEAD1JFIF.              
  142.     This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with YUV 4:1:1 color 
  143.     spacing, to produce a smaller JFIF file.      
  144.  
  145. LEAD2JFIF.              
  146.     This is a JPEG File Interchange Format with YUV 4:2:2 color 
  147.     spacing, to produce the smallest JFIF file.
  148.  
  149. JTIF.   This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with full color 
  150.      spacing (YUV 4:4:4).

  152. LEAD1JTIF.              
  153.     This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with YUV 4:1:1 color 
  154.     spacing, to produce a smaller JTIF file.

  156. LEAD2JTIF.              
  157.     This is a JPEG Tagged Interchange Format with YUV 4:2:2 color 
  158.     spacing, to produce the smallest JTIF file.

  160. TIFF.   This is a tag-based file format designed to promote universal 
  161.     interchanges of digital image data. Because TIFF files do not 
  162.     have a single way to store image data, there are many versions 
  163.     of TIFF. Icons Control 95 supports the most common TIFF formats.

  165. MPT.    This is a multipage TIFF format that enables a file to 
  166.     contain more than one image. It is handled the same as a regular 
  167.     TIFF file, except for the multipage feature.
  168.  
  169. TIFF LZW.               
  170.     These files use the Tagged Image File Format with LZW compression.
  171.  
  172. TIFF CCITT.             
  173.     These are compressed TIFF files that are commonly used for FAX 
  174.     transmission and document imaging.
  175.  
  176. TIFF CCITT Group 3.     
  177.     These are TIFF CCITT files in a format that is more advanced 
  178.     and more compressed than TIFF CCITT.
  179.  
  180. TIFF CCITT Group 4.     
  181.     These are TIFF CCITT files in a format that is more advanced 
  182.     and more compressed than TIFF CCITT Group 3.
  183.  
  184. IOCA (ICA).             
  185.     This is the Image Object Content Architecture developed by IBM. 
  186.  
  187. WinFax Group 3.         
  188.     This is a FAX format created by Delrina for Group 3 support.
  189.  
  190. WinFax Group 4.         
  191.     This is a FAX format created by Delrina for Group 4 support.
  192.  
  193. FAX Group 3.            
  194.     This is a raw FAX format (without a header) for Group 3 support. 
  195.  
  196. FAX Group 4.            
  197.     This is a raw FAX format (without a header) for Group 4 support.

  199. Truevision TGA (TARGA). 
  200.     This is a file format created by Truevision Inc.
  201.  
  202. GIF. 
  203.     This is the Graphics Interchange Format created by CompuServe 
  204.     for storing and exchanging color raster images.
  205.  
  206. PNG (Portable Network Graphics). 
  207.     This is a replacement for the GIF format. It is a full-featured 
  208.     (non-LZW) compressed format intended for widespread use without 
  209.     legal restraints.
  210.  
  211. Photoshop 3.0 (PSD). 
  212.     This is the format produced by the Adobe Photoshop graphics editor.
  213.  
  214. Windows Bitmap (BMP). 
  215.     This is a file format created by Microsoft. Some BMP images are 
  216.     compressed with an RLE type compression.
  217.  
  218. Windows Metafile (WMF). 
  219.     These files are not bitmap based images. A Windows metafile 
  220.     consists of a collection of device independent functions that 
  221.     represents an image. When a program loads a metafile, these 
  222.     functions are executed to obtain the image.
  223.  
  224. PCX.    This is a file format created by ZSoft. This format 
  225.     compresses its image data with the RLE type compression.
  226.  
  227. DCX.    This is a multipage PCX format that enables a file to 
  228.     contain more than one image. It is handled the same as a regular 
  229.     PCX file, except for the multipage feature.
  230.  
  231. PostScript Raster (Encapsulated PostScript). 
  232.     These files are used primarily on PostScript printers. These 
  233.     printers usually offer more variety of fonts and higher resolution 
  234.     than standard laser printers. EPS files will work on any PostScript 
  235.     compatible printer and any end user application that supports 
  236.     placement of EPS files in its work space.
  237.  
  238. OS/2 Bitmap (OS/2 BMP). 
  239.     These are files created on an OS/2 operating system.
  240.  
  241. CALS Raster. 
  242.     These are 1-bit CCITT Group 4 CALS raster files. CALS is a U.S. 
  243.     government standard.
  244.  
  245. MacPaint (MAC). 
  246.     These Macintosh Paint files are commonly used for monochrome 
  247.     clip art.
  248.  
  249. GEM Image (IMG). 
  250.     These files are native to the Graphical Environment Manager 
  251.     developed by Digital Research.
  252.  
  253. Microsoft Paint (MSP). 
  254.     These files from early versions of Windows are used for 
  255.     black-and-white drawings and clip art.
  256.  
  257. WordPerfect (WPG). 
  258.     These are WordPerfect raster files. 
  259.  
  260. SUN Raster (RAS). 
  261.     These files are native to Sun UNIX platforms.
  262.  
  263. Macintosh Pict (PCT). 
  264.     These files, produced using Macintosh QuickDraw, are used 
  265.     in desktop publishing and imaging applications.
  266.  
  267. LEAD 1BIT. 
  268.     These are 1-bit LEAD compressed files.
  269.  
  270. PCD.    
  271.     These are Kodak PhotoCD files. These read-only files can contain 
  272.     multiple resolutions. You can specify which of the resolutions to read.

  276. REGISTRATION
  277. ------------
  278. Icons Control 95 is both freeware and shareware.  Freeware users are free 
  279. to use it to view, copy, mode, delete, and rename icons.  Icons Control 95 
  280. even displays icons embedded inside DLL and EXE files.  The displayed icons 
  281. cannot be extracted, edited, or converted.  The extraction, editing, and 
  282. conversion functions are only available in the registered versions 
  283. (shareware).  There is no evaluation period to use Icons Control 95.  You 
  284. may use it as long as you want.  But in order to use the above-mentioned 
  285. functions, you must register to obtain the registered version.

  289. PAYMENT TERMS

  291. Registration is $25.  Registered users will receive the latest version 
  292. through internet email (UUencoded or MIME-encoded). If you prefer to 
  293. receive the software on 3 3.5" floppy disks, the fee is $31.  As of
  294. this writing, I accept several payment methods:

  296. 1) Money orders, cashier checks, bank checks (MUST be drawn from a 
  297.    U.S. bank).  I ship the product immediately upon receiving these.
  298.  
  299. 2) Personal checks (MUST be drawn from a U.S. bank).  I ship the
  300.    product after the check is cleared.
  301.  
  302. 3) Register on-line via Compuserve (SWREG #14140) and receive the
  303.    registered version within 24 hours of registration.

  305. 4) You can purchase the product on-line using Visa/MasterCard from 
  306.    the Virtual Software store and receive the registered version

  323. A single user license permits a user to use Icons Control 95 only on 
  324. a single computer.  Licensed users may use the program on different 
  325. computers as long as there is no possibility of it being used at one 
  326. location while it is being used at another, or on a network by more 
  327. than one user at a time.

  329. A site license is required by a corporation, company, educational 
  330. institution, or governmental agency for use of Icons Control 95 
  331. software on the total number of computers that will use the software.
