- UPGRADES & CHANGES:
-
- 1.0 to 1.1
- ==========
-
- It is now possible to choose just one language (instead of two) to build a
- word list in text format.
-
- When the variable ERGANE is not specified in the DOS environment table the
- programme now looks for the data files in the specified working directory
- instead of in the root directory.
-
- For word memorization a user can now make a selection of words with the
- dictionary. This selection can then be used as a word source instead of the
- entire dictionary.
-
- All references to the character set ANSI has been removed because it turned
- out to be the same set as Latin 1 after some faulty mappings were corrected
- there.
-
- Kurdish and Zulu have been added to the supported languages.
-
- 1.2 to 1.3
- ==========
-
- A filter menu has been added to the export module. It is now possible to
- exclude from the "from" part of the list:
- 1) Definitions, i.e. text enclosed in < > signifying a definition or example
- where there is no suitable equivalent of a word or expression.
- 2) Expressions, i.e. text consisting of more than one word.
- 3) Capitalized words (actually words containing at least one upper case letter)
-
- The programme now automatically omits languages from the list boxes for which
- there are no vocabulary files present in the data dictionary.
-
- The programme prevents now entering illegal character sequences in Thai such
- as a vowel sign without a vowel bearer or two consecutive vowel characters.
-
- A conversion table for the character set Windows Thai has been added to the
- programme.
-
- The check box "inner join" on the export form has been replaced by a set of
- three radio buttons. Pressing the third button makes it possible to generate
- wordlists entirely consisting of words WITHOUT a known equivalent in another
- language.
-
- The format of trilingual wordlists has been altered. The Esperanto equivalents
- now come at the end of a line instead of at the start, thus making it easier
- to compare the vocabularies of the other two languages.
-
- REMOVED BUGS:
-
- 1.0 to 1.1
- ==========
-
- Canceling the selection of a file for creating a word list does not cause the
- programme to crash anymore.
-
- Not selecting a character set for creating a word list is now indicated with
- the proper error message.
-
- Two errors in the file CP852.TT were corrected. They caused Ergane to crash
- when the character set CP852 (Slavic) was selected for exporting a word list.
-
- It is now impossible to enter more characters than the size of the input
- buffer allows (which previously caused the programme to crash) and the size
- of the input buffer has been increased from 30 to 60 characters.
-
- Pressing the Close button during the generation of a wordlist does not
- cause the programme to crash anymore.
-
- Thai and Lao vowels in the character tables are not re-displayed in their
- normal text position (over a consonant) anymore when you click on them.
-
- Four faulty mappings have been corrected in the translation table LATIN1.TT.
-
- 1.1 to 1.2
- ==========
-
- An old reference to the ANSI set has been removed from the export module.
-
- An error in the file LATIN1.TT was corrected. It caused an extra space
- in front of an ae ligature in generated word lists.
-
- The first word from a dictionary was omitted in most types of word lists;
- this error has been corrected.
-
- The programme crashed if users tried to generate a word list without a
- path to the data directory being specified. This error has been corrected.
-
- The practice module has been improved. By default the programme now only
- picks words that have known equivalents in both selected languages.
-
- 1.2 to 1.3
- ==========
-
- The programme does not crash anymore when practising with a user defined
- wordlist as source is followed by practising with a dictionary as source.
-
- The combination of random selection and a user defined wordlist did always
- yield the first word in this list. This error has been corrected.
-
- In the character conversion tables CP*.TT and CYRIL5.TT the entry for the
- apostrophe was missing. This caused apostrophes to be converted to @ char-
- acters. These files have been updated.
-
- The practise module does not get stuck in an infinite loop anymore when
- the chosen interval contains no suitable words.
-
- Two problems causing incomplete exported wordlists in some circumstances
- have been corrected.
-
- 1.3 to 1.3A
- ===========
-
- If not all vocabulary files listed in VORTARO.GEG were present in the
- data directory this could cause several fatal errors during execution. This
- error has been corrected in 1.3A.
-
- 1.3A to 2.0
- ===========
-
- Several less serious bugs have been corrected and the user interface has been
- changed slightly.
-
- The .TT files have been renamed to .NTT files to reflect a change in the
- format.
-
- The .KEY files have been renamed to .KMP files and some have had an "S" added
- to their filename to avoid confusion with vocabulary files (e.g. the file
- LATIN.KEY is now LATINS.KMP). The format has not been changed so if you have
- edited .KEY files to fit your local keyboard you can just rename those files
- and use them instead of the new files.
-
- With pattern searching it is now possible to find words with a common ending
- by putting the asterisk wildcard at the beginning of a word (e.g. *ish). Also
- pattern searching is now more efficient in some cases, and the process can be
- interrupted at any moment with a break button.
-
- The Arabic and Hebrew scripts have been implemented so that languages that
- use these scripts can be added in the future.
-
- By double-clicking on the name of a character set on the export window you
- can now have a table displayed with all the printable characters in that set
- (except for Windows Thai which isn't complete yet). And by clicking on a
- specific character you can have its code number in that particular set dis-
- played, its code number in the Ergane set, its code number in the Unicode
- set and its official Unicode name (if known by me).
-
- The Unicode numbers and names are also given when you click on a character in
- one of the character tables displayed on the "Keyboard configuration window".
-
- A new vocabulary TOPONYMS has been added which contains only proper names
- (mostly toponyms such as "New York", "London", etc.) that have an Esperanto
- name. In the previous version it was impossible to translate for instance
- "Bridgend" (a town in Wales) from Swahili to Esperanto because there is no
- Swahili name for that town. But if the TOPONYMS vocabulary is installed
- you can either enter the English name or the Welsh name (Penybont) instead
- of the non-existent Swahili name, and the programme will give the Esperanto
- name (Penibonto). It also works vice versa; i.e. "Penibonto" will yield the
- names "Bridgend" and "Penybont" for Swahili.
-
- 2.0 to 2.0A
-
- Minor bug fixed.
-
- 2.0A to 2.0B
-
- Minor bug fixed.
-
- 2.0B to 2.0C
-
- Most windows were re-sized in order to fit on screens working with a low
- resolution.
-
- An alternative format for exported word lists has been implemented (no
- Esperanto words included, and an extra newline after each item).
-
- A bug causing the programme to crash when an Esperanto word unknown in a given
- dictionary was entered, has been fixed.
-
- 2.0C to 2.1
-
- The "Keyboard configuration" module can now actually be used to configure the
- keyboard. Also all keys on a non US keyboard can now be used (after assigning
- the desired characters to them).
