- 3. INSTALLATION GUIDE
-
- This product is 32-bit and will work on Windows 95, 98
- and NT. It is best viewed at a screen resolution of
- 800x600, though you can adjust the settings later.
-
- Download the screen saver .exe file to your hard drive,
- saving it to a directory of your choice. (If you have
- downloaded a ZIP file, extract the .exe file to the
- directory of your choice by using an UNZIP program.)
-
- In Windows Explorer, double-click on the file (or use
- the RUN command from your START menu); the screen saver
- will self-install, placing an icon on your desktop
- which allows you to quick-start whichever screensaver
- you currently have selected.
-
- In our latest saver versions (2.46 and above) you will
- also have a saver control in your task bar.
-

- 4. GUIDE TO UNINSTALLING
-
- To uninstall the screen saver, click your START menu,
- choose SETTINGS, choose CONTROL PANEL, and find the
- ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS section. Find the name of the
- screen saver, double-click, and it will be removed
- automatically.

- 5. ENTERING YOUR REGISTRATION/UNLOCK CODES
-
- a] Right click your mouse on your desktop (your monitor)
- anywhere that's clear, i.e. not on an icon.
-
- b] A drop-down menu will appear. Choose "Properties" (usually
- at the bottom of the menu).
-
- c] The DISPLAY PROPERTIES box will appear.
-
- d] Choose the "Screen Saver" tab from the row of tabs at top.
-
- e] You will see an image of a monitor. Below this is a box
- in which you can choose which saver to display. Choose
- the saver you want to unlock.
-
- f] Click the "Settings" button right beside the choice box.
-
- g] The Settings tabs for the saver will appear. The first
- tab that appears is the TRIAL tab, containing two boxes
- to be filled in.
-
- h] CUT AND PASTE from your registration email to ensure that
- no errors occur. Your registration email contains a code
- system that looks like this (this is a sample only; yours
- will contain your own NAME and KEY):
-
- NAME = Joe Soap
- KEY = 0987AB34DE0
-
- i] In the first box, enter the NAME exactly as given in your
- registration email.
-
- j] In the second box, enter the KEY CODE exactly as given in
- your registration email. Note that any 0 in the code is
- the NUMBER ZERO, and not the letter "O".
-
- k] Click on OK. The Settings box will disappear.
-
- l] Click on SETTINGS again to re-enter the saver's settings.
-
- m] Check that the TRIAL tab has disappeared. If it is still
- there, the saver has not accepted your registration codes.
- Please try again, ensuring that you are entering them
- exactly as in your registration email.
-
- n] If the tab still does not go away, please check that you
- have the correct saver in the choice box; codes will ONLY
- work with the correct saver.
-

- 6. CUSTOMISE YOUR SAVER!
-
- - Turn the music off (or back on again)
- - Choose to fit the images to your screen size or have
- the original size displayed
- - Change the time delay - in other words, adjust the
- time that each picture displays on your screen
- - Up to 23 transition effects to choose from
- - Display the captions (NOTE: USUALLY these are just
- the names of the image files but occasionally they
- may be references for the pictures), and adjust the
- font and position on the page of the captions

- TO CUSTOMISE YOUR SAVER:
-
- NOTE: SOME OPTIONS ONLY SHOW IN REGISTERED
- SAVERS - if you still have a TRIAL tab showing, you
- will NOT have some of the options available to you!
-

- have a Multimedia tab, there is no sound with the saver.)

- 7. TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEMS WITH YOUR SAVER
-
- In very rare instances, certain computer configurations
- are incompatible with our saver software. Usually this
- can be fixed with adjustments. NOTE: SOME NT SYSTEMS
- STILL DON'T LIKE US! Please evaluate on the correct
- computer before buying; refunds CANNOT be made!
-
- a] PROBLEMS WHEN TRYING TO INSTALL
- If you have problems when you first try to install or
- to execute our savers, it is quite probable that
- something went wrong in cyberspace during downloading.
- Usually, downloading again gets you the file undamaged
- and the installation should go smoothly.
-
- b] SCREEN SAVER STALLING OR CRASHING OR FLASHING:
- If you are running a version lower than v2.0, please go
- to our web site and download the latest version. Some
- computer sound card configurations do not install an
- audio codec that is required by Stardust; versions from
- v2.0 upwards of our savers automatically install this
- codec for you and will solve the problem.

- c] SCREEN SAVER WILL NOT WORK IN SPITE OF DOING
- [a] AND [b]:
- Our very latest savers (versions 2.46 and above) will
- not work on the earliest version of Windows 95
- (sometimes called Windows 95 "A") *UNLESS* Microsoft's
- OLEAUT32 update (oadist.exe) is installed OR you have
- Internet Explorer 3.x or later installed. This is
- a very easy fix; go to the PLEASE READ page at our web
- site and download the oadist.exe file, double-click to
- install, and the problem (and probably several others
- you may have been having! <ggg>) will be solved.

- d] SCREEN SAVER TRIAL TAB WILL NOT DISAPPEAR:
- When you have entered a correct Unlock Code, the trial
- tab should disappear; check this by going back into the
- settings as soon as you have entered your registration
- code to see whether the TRIAL tab is gone. If it isn't:
-
- i. try entering the code again. Please ensure that any
- "0" in the code is a NUMBER, not the letter "O".
-
- ii. Check the name of the screen saver; is it the same
- as the name that appears on your Registration Email?
- You may have bought the wrong saver, in which case
- the code we have issued will not work.
-
- iii. If you have the CARS OF YESTERYEAR screen saver,
- please DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION from our web site
- as there is a change in the coding system for this
- particular saver.
-
- iv. If NONE of the above solve the problem, please
- CONTACT US immediately; it is possible that something
- is amiss in the code we sent you.
-
- e] THE SAVER IS SHOWING "FLATTENED" COLOURS ...
-
- If the image quality of the saver is poor or looks as
- though the colours are flattened or distorted, your
- monitor is probably not set to read "high colour"
- (it's probably set at 256 colours, in which case
- your images will appear "posterised"). You can adjust
- this in two ways:
-
- i. You can make an adjustment in the screen saver's
- settings: go into your saver's settings (see
- instructions above) and choose the "Transitions"
- tab (THIS ONLY SHOWS IN REGISTERED SAVERS - if
- you still have a TRIAL tab showing, you will NOT
- have some of the options available to you!).
- Now click on the "ADVANCED" button, check the
- box for "Always dither to standard pallet", and
- click "OK". The posterisation will be removed,
- but the image quality will not be quite as good.

- ii. ONLY DO THIS IS YOU KNOW A BIT ABOUT YOUR
- COMPUTER'S CONFIGURATION OR HAVE SOMEONE NEARBY
- TO HELP IN CASE YOU DO IT WRONG! <gggg>
-
- If your monitor has the capability of changing
- its Display Settings, you can adjust the whole
- way you see images! (This will slow down your
- system very slightly) Go to the "Display
- Properties" box and choose the "Settings" tab
- (NOT the one in the "Screen Saver" tab, but the
- one in the main "Display Properties" box!).
- Change your "Colour Pallet" to HIGH COLOUR or
- TRUE COLOUR; the options offered to you here
- will depend on the monitor that is set up in
- the "Advanced" section.
