Once the symbols are assigned and unit information is entered you can run several reports using the FILE Option command PRINT REPORTS.
Plant & Materials List - Lists plants, material and quantities
Purchase List - Lists material, quantities and costs
Drawing Legend - List to match element codes to item name
Complete Database Listing - Lists the database selected.
Note, this report is the entire database and can be very
large. Only use it if you want a hard copy of the entire list.
Reports can be printed to your printer, to the screen or to a file.
A report can include the entire design or selected layers. This is handy if you organized your drawing by years and need a list and budget for next year's purchases.

This completes the section on starting your design. The next tutorial section will continue this drawing.
LD TIP: There are several example drawing files including the design we are working on for you to look at. Chapter 3 Using LandDesigner: An Example in your User's Guide tells you how to find these drawing files and walks you through this design from start to finish.ilm start to finish...........

Next we can add some hardscape items such as decks, patios, and walks. For odd shaped structures and areas such as our deck we will use the POLYGON drawing tool.
When drawing a polygon, click once when the cursor is at each desired point of the polygon. To complete the polygon either double click to close or
click the right mouse button.
LD TIP: When you are drawing a polygon, the ESC key will step you back to the previous point.
Click Demo Button to add the deck.

SNAP LOCK:
Snap Lock Preferences let you set up LandDesigner's AUTO-SNAPPING feature.
When the AUTO-SNAPPING option is on, all the graphics you add to the drawing will be positioned at the closest snap point that you have specified. This is helpful when laying out a hedge or sprinkler system. If Auto-snapping is off, LandDesigner will not adjust the position.
Click on Grid Form button if you want to view the form again.
LD TIP: When you are drawing a line, you can snap it to the endpoint of another line by pressing the F2 key.
se AUTO-SNAPPING. Set the snap spacing to a small number such as 1 or 2 ft. Remember to turn Auto-snapping off when you are drawing curved polygons.
text1
GRIDS:
Adjust the grid markings by using the GRID command in the Display Options command menu.
The grid provides a "graph paper" like background to assist you in placing the landscape elements.
The grid spacing can be changed at anytime, and turned on and off without affecting your design.
LD TIP: When working on a small or detailed area such as a garden, zoom-in and set the grid markings closer. Note that when you zoom out, you may not see the grid if it is too fine. Just adjust to a larger grid spacing so the markings show.

ELEMENT CODES:
When you add a symbol to your drawing you may see a letter followed by a number. This is the ELEMENT CODE.
Every symbol on your drawing is assigned an Element Code to the identify the name and link it to the databases.
The P0 here indicates the symbol has not been assigned a name yet so there is no database information associated with the symbol. In the next tutorial section we will discuss assigning the symbols.
Element Codes can be displayed or turned off using the ELEMENT CODE command in the Display Options menu..
We will turn the display off and continue our design.

PLANT AND MATERIAL SELECTION
This section will cover the steps involved in assigning symbols to represent specific plants and materials.
A sprinkler circuit is now defined. Next, validate the design using the TEST command in the SPRINKLER menu.
LandDesigner will:
1. Verify that only the same types of heads are used on a given circuit;
2. Verify that the number of heads on the circuit do not exceed 75
percent of the given flow rate;
3. Illustrate the coverage pattern to insure that each area is properly
covered.
As necessary, modify the design and repeat the tests. The next step will show how to connect the sprinkler heads together with pipe.
fy the design and repeat the tests. The next step will show how to connect the sprinker heads together with pipe.

Finally, complete the definition of the pipe layouts by assigning specific characteristics to the pipe symbols using the LIBRARY and PURCHASE options in the ATTRIBUTE menu. Other sprinkler components such as valves, pressure regulators, pumps, filters, etc. are added to the drawing in the same manner.
The sprinkler components will appear in the material lists and purchasing reports, giving you a complete list of all elements used in your design.
This completes this section of the LandDesigner tutorial on sprinkler design. Please refer the LandDesigner manual for more information and more details on the example we've been using.

The 5 LandDesigner Symbol Libraries are accessed through the icons located down the right side of the window.
Each symbol is generic. The description next to a symbol is a suggested use. You can use a deciduous tree symbol as an evergreen.
As with most Windows applications, you can have multiple symbol windows opened. These can be moved and re-sized. This is useful when you want to place the symbol where the Symbol Library Window is displayed.
The Windows Tutorial demonstrates how to manipulate the window forms............ forms.he window forms.forms.....

ASSIGNING SYMBOLS:
When you place a symbol on your drawing it is a graphic object. There is no name or set characteristics associated to it.
Using the LIBRARY INFO and PURCHASE INFO commands we can assign a symbol as a landscape element with specific characteristics including name, description and purchasing information.
These commands are found on the ATTRIBUTES menu.
The LIBRARY INFO command is used to assign your symbols names and access LandDesigner's plant and landscape material databases.
The PURCHASE INFO command is used to assign and display the purchase and cost information for the selected object.

LAYER CONTROL:
Drawing Layers help you organize your landscape plans. Think of them as overlays similar to sheets of tracing paper, one atop another.
The ACTIVE layer is the layer you're working on and adding your graphics to. The VIEWED layers are the layers you are looking at. You can view any number of layers at a time, but only one can be ACTIVE. Most layer names can be changed using the RENAME command. Please close the Layer Control Form to continue... When working with plant material such as trees, shrubs and garden plants use the Default Libraries, the White Flower Farm library or additional plant libraries which can be purchased from GreenThumb Software Inc.
GreenThumb Software's plant libraries are based on the USDA Zones and include information on over 300 plants for each region group. You can easily add additional plants to these databases.

LandDesigner has on-screen features to assist you.
The HELP MENU opens the Help Windows.
Pressing the F1 key while performing a task will open the Help Window.
The STATUS BAR provides information about the task you are performing and will prompt you for the next action.

In addition to the onscreen help, your LandDesigner User's Guide and the Microsoft Windows User's Guide can provide more information to answer your questions.
The LandDesigner User's Guide includes reference sections, a chapter that answers some "How Do I...?" questions and and a chapter that walks you through a sample design.
If you need further assistance with your LandDesigner questions, you can call Technical Support.
The phone number and hours are listed on the back of your LandDesigner User's Guide.uide.ide..igner User's Guide...

It also provides a record of your purchases.
When the unit type and unit cost information is entered, LandDesigner calculates the material and cost estimates for you.
Unit type is the way the material is purchased:
Each: Individual items such as trees, benches, valves
Unit / Space: Individual items to fill an area such as flower or shrub beds
Linear: Items measured by Linear footage such as fencing and piping
Area: Items measured by Square footage or coverings without depth,
such as decking or sod
Volume: Items measured by Cubic yardage, or coverings with depth, such
as mulch or concreteee
text2
To enter cost information:
1. Click on Unit Type.
2. Select the Unit Type.
3. Enter the Unit Cost.
4. Depending on the
