  18.  With some help from Mike Lewis on the recording portion, last night I
  19. was able to successfully record and play simultaneously under Windows.
  20. However, the output of the DAC was fed into the input of the ADC.
  21. This makes my task impossible as I need to play a calibration tone and
  22. record the signal level at the microphone position.

  24.  I have the reference sheets for the chipset and I know it is supposed
  25. to be possible to turn off this feature, however it is possible that
  26. Gravis hardwired this.  (Why I don't know.)  Before I purchased this
  27. card Gravis suggested that it was possible to turn this off, however
  28. I've seen several things from net folks that suggests in fact the
  29. opposite.

  49. I think it depends on which GUS you have, i.e. which mixer. With the MAX you 
  50. can select the recording source in windows in the mixer program. Look under 
  51. the control menu for recording source (or voice source). One can choose Line 
  52. In, mic etc. The downside with this is that there is only the recording gain 
  53. control to then control the input level (since it doesn't go through the 
  54. mixer proper just the rec. mux) and this has produces some offset problems 
  55. when gain!=0dB. I posted a "soothe" for this problem a few weeks back 
  56. (didn't get any comments though). If you're using a standard GUS there are 
  57. some mixer diagrams in the SDK to look at, my guess is the later versions 
  58. should allow you to select a separate recording source rather than the 
  59. default; output from the mixer. Also, you'll want to mute the Line In so 
  60. that it doesn't go through the mixer too. BTW I'd be interested in the 
  61. application of this... ...maybe some direct email?
