  16.      The _p_a_t_c_h-_m_e_t_a_m_a_i_l program will attempt to retreive a patch file for the
  17.      metamail distribution, using anonymous ftp to a trusted server, and then
  18.      install that patch in your local copy of the distribution.

  20.      The first two arguments, which are required, are the root directory of
  21.      your local copy of the metamail source directory, and the patch number.
  22.      The former is site-dependent, the latter is patch-dependent.
  23.  
  24.      In general, patch-metamail is intended to be called via metamail, with a
  25.      mailcap entry like the following:

  27.      application/x-metamail-patch;patch-metamail source-tree-root
  28.      %{patchnumber}; needsterminal
  29.  
  30.      The default values for the host to ftp to, the directory name to retrieve
  31.      the file from, and the patch file name prefix are hard-wired to
  32.      thumper.bellcore.com, pub/nsb, and "mm.patch.".  While you can override
  33.      these on the command line, it would be a big mistake to make these
  34.      parameterized based on the contents of a mail message, because then
  35.      someone could spoof you into retrieving a new version of metamail with a
  36.      Trojan horse from their site!  However, as long as you retain control
  37.      over what host and directory the patches are retrieved from, this program
  38.      is reasonably safe (as safe as the host you're depending on, anyway).
