The treacherous ex-president Boris Yeltsin's corruption and deception during his rule finally were unveiled on Statewide television last night.  The State Police have issued a warrant for his arrest, for the charges of treason and corruption.  However, the slippery scoundrel has managed to elude the police and has snuck aboard an Aeroflot airliner heading for Ukraine.
  47. The Ukraine has given him asylum and the clearance to land.
  48. Foolishly the Americans have intruded into our internal affairs and wish to ensure the traitor's safety.  USS Eisenhower is steaming within the Sea of Azov despite our embassy's protests.  Nonetheless we must not allow Yeltsin to escape unpunished.
  49. The Kharkiv Airbase CO has asked that you lead the intercept.

  55. You are to intercept the airliner carrying Yeltsin and shoot it down.  The USS Eisenhower will be sending an escort to protect it.   
  56. Primary Objective:  CAP - destroy Yeltsin's plane before it lands within Ukraine.  Return to base immediately upon ensuring Yeltsin's destruction. 
  57. Rules of Engagement:  At this point loitering in Ukrainian airspace is quite dangerous.  Avoid engaging the Americans unless absolutely necessary.
  58. (Your MiG-31 interceptor has been specially fitted to carry the more effective R73 IR (AA-11 Archer) instead of the R60 (AA-8 Aphid).  You may load either on your aircraft.)

  89. The Kharkiv CO is overflowing with magnanimity as he meets you in the pilot's lounge.
  90. "Good work, Major.  We have shown the Ukrainians, the Americans, and the whole world that we are in control of matters, and that no outside interference in internal affairs will be tolerated!"
  91. Pompous bastard, you think to yourself, you sound as if you had pickled off the missiles at Boris yourself...  When was the last time you even sat in a cockpit?  
  92. You crack a smile and take his offered hand.  "Thank you sir, it is a pleasure to serve the Party well at every chance."
  93. The CO pulls out a slip of paper from his pocket.  "That is good, because you are going to have the chance, comrade!"
  94. You take the paper and read the brief message.  "... multiple role... forward deployment?  where?"
  95. The CO shrugs.  "Who knows?  The request comes from a high source, comrade.  I need an answer."
  96. As if anything but yes would be acceptable, you reflect sourly.  "Of course, sir.  I should be proud to serve my Party wherever it sees fit to send me."
  97. "Good, good.  Pack your things.  Your transport leaves in one hour."
  98. You stand at attention as he leaves the lounge.  When the door shuts behind him you make your way to your room, your mind whirling feverishly.

  113. You have failed the Commonwealth and the State.  The dog Yeltsin made it safely to the Ukraine where he is receiving worldwide media attention.

Your biggest concern is dodging those F-14's missles.  Your RWR won't display out beyond 50nm but they'll lock you up and fire way beyond that range, so be alert for Phoenixes coming in.  A few chaff bundles usually will break their lock.  Your best strategy may be to evade them and nail Yeltsin quickly, then head back for home on burners.  [As you may recall, the MiGs in USNF got distracted by the F-14s and got nailed.]  If you can make it back home your base's SAM defenses should deter the Americans from coming after you.  The MiG-31 is a real dog of a plane, so I wouldn't fight them in close unless you really know what you're doing.
