- HEBTEXT.ZIP
-
- contains 3 files which may be distributed freely as long as all files are
- distributed together and unaltered.
-
- 1. HEBTEXT.COM remaps Hebrew characters to the European characters above
- ASCII 128
- 2. HEBTEXT.DOC This text file
- 3. HEBTEXT.TST Tests display of Hebrew characters ("TYPE HEBTEXT.TST" after
- loading HEBTEXT.COM).
-
- The purpose of the programme is simple. Many Israelis use the English/Hebrew
- word processor "Einstein" (copyright: Targahm Industries, Israel) which is
- designed for use on Israeli PC's and printers where the Hebrew font is hard-
- coded in the Video ROM BIOS and in the printer ROM. The result is that files
- generated in Einstein but displayed using non-Israeli video boards appear as
- a mass of European characters with umlauts. Running this programme allows
- Einstein Hebrew files to be displayed in Hebrew on any EGA/VGA board. This
- programme works with every single version of Einstein. With any other
- character-based programme, all relevant characters above ASCII 128 will be
- displayed as Hebrew characters.
-
- HEBTEXT sets the screen to MONO to run. In order to reset/remove the Hebrew
- font, type "MODE CO80" at the DOS prompt (assuming the DOS file MODE is
- located on a current path).
-
- Printing is another matter. For those of you with a Panasonic or Epson
- printer that accepts down-loadable fonts, and where you have been smart
- enough to install the extra 32k-or-so printer buffer, let me know and I'll
- send you a self-loading printer file that will allow you to print Einstein
- files (or any Hebrew characters) in draft mode.
-
- p.s. With all due respect, my screen font is an order of magnitude more
- aesthetic than that obtainable from KesherWorks.
