- WordQwik is a writing utility that gives you instant help on those
- confusing words in English. Is it "it's" or "its," "imply" or
- "infer," "affect" or "effect"? WordQwik pops up in the document
- you're working on to give you proper usage with examples. It
- contains more than 100 pairs or triplets of words often confused
- by writers.
-
- WordQwik is a breeze to use. Simply type WordQwik at the DOS
- prompt, or use your DOS shell program from within your word
- processor. A menu of confusing words will appear in the center
- of your screen. You can scroll word by word, or you can page up
- or down to find the word(s) you are interested in. When you have
- found the pair or triplet that you are interested in, type the
- Insert key. You will be taken to the explanation screen, which
- explains the differences between the words and uses them in
- illustrative sentences.
-
- When you're finished with the explanation screen, typing any key
- will return you to the opening menu, from which you may either
- select other words or exit to return to DOS or your word
- processor.
-
- WordQwik was written by William Erdman (Erdman the Wordman), Ph.D.
- William Erdman has been teaching college writing at all levels for
- more than 20 years, and WordQwik as well as other Abraxas writing
- software arises from his experience helping writers improve their
- writing.
-
- If you wish to call WordQwik from WordPerfect, make sure that
- WordQwik is in the same directory as WordQwik, then copy the file
- WQ.WPM into whatever directory you have your WordPerfect macros
- (see the setup screen if you're not sure which directory that
- is--if all else fails, try copying them into the directory where
- WordPerfect is located). Then, when you wish to run WordQwik,
- type Alt-WQ.
-
- If you use WordStar 5.5 or WordStar 6.0, you have two alterna-
- tives. You may simply copy WSSHORT.OVR into the directory where
- your WordStar is. Then you can access WordQwik by typing Esc-1.
-
- The disadvantage to this technique is that it will wipe out any
- WordStar macros you may already have. If you have WordStar
- macros that you wish to save, you may add the WordQwik macros by
- typing the following keystrokes. Where the number 1 appears, you
- may substitute whatever key you wish to have as the key to access
- WordQwik.
-
- Type in the key you wish to use to call the macro.
-
- You will now see the macro definition menu. Type in a de-
- scription (if you wish) of the macro, followed by Return.
-
- Then type the following keystrokes (omitting the commas. When
- two keys are joined by a hyphen, type them simultaneously.
-
- Ctrl-P,Ctrl-K,F,Wordqwik,Ctrl-P,Ctrl-M
-
- Now press the return key, and you will be taken to the confirma-
- tion box, which asks whether you wish to have the definition
- stored to disk. Type Y, followed by the return key, and the
- definition will be saved.
-
- If you wish to run WordQwik from dBASE III, III+ or IV, copy the
- file WQ.PRG into the directory where you dBASE program is. Then,
- when you wish to run WordQwik, type "do wq" (without quotes) from
- the dot prompt.
