- Hazardous Chemical Reactivity
-
-
- This program was written for computers running MS-DOS. It was
- designed on a 286 machine with an EGA card and a color monitor.
- No provision has been made for installation using different
- graphics adaptors. In addition to the 286, I also run it on a
- 80C88-based laptop (with CGA graphics), and it is noticeably
- slower, especially during disk access and chemical searches. My
- apologies to any XT users out there; keep in mind, however, that
- the chemical database contains nearly 1300 chemicals, including
- synonyms, which accounts for the speed (or lack thereof) of the
- searches on slower machines.
-
- The files contained in the .ZIP file are as follows:
-
-
- REACT.DAT The chemical data file
- REACT.EXE the main program file
- REACT.PIC the opening graphic
- RECODE.DAT the reactivity code file
- RREAD.ME this file
- REACT.DOC ASCII documentation file
- REACT.PAM documentation file for use with PAMPHLET (C)
-
- Plus the following screen files
-
- REACT.SCR the reactivity screen
- REACTMNU.SCR the main menu screen
- RGNINFO.SCR \
- RGNINFO2.SCR > three info (help) screens
- RGNINFO3.SCR /
- RGNSRCH.SCR the RGN table screen
-
- Note that there are two doc files included. The first is a
- "straight" ASCII file. The second contains embedded printer codes
- for use with the shareware program PAMPHLET (C), a Hewlett-Packard
- LaserJet Series II printer, and softfonts. PAMPHLET (C) will print
- any text file on both sides of the paper (with 2 passes) in
- pamphlet form; version 3.1 will allow the use of softfonts using
- embedded code. The fonts used in the REACT.PAM file were Times
- Roman 10 point (normal, bold, and italics), and Helvetica 12 and
- 18 point (both bold). I also changed the HP escape character to *.
- If you have never used PAMPHLET (C), I suggest you download it and
- give it a try. It is well worth it. I print my MSDS list every
- month using an older version of PAMPHLET (C) from within dBASE IV,
- and it makes a very nice 6 page pamphlet, complete with cover, instead
- of a 22 page stack of paper.
-
- This software was prepared by a government employee using
- government equipment, and is provided as freeware. It may be
- freely copied and distributed. I do ask, however, that all the
- files listed above be kept in the archive file, and that no
- modifications be made to the program (since my name is on it!).
- If you find any bugs or have any suggestions for improvement, you
- may feel free to contact me directly.
