- The Integral Scientist Version 1.1 Update information
-
- Version 1.1 changes
-
-
- Corrections:
-
- Elements 81 - 85 evaluated incorrectly in the Molecular Weight
- Calculator. An error in the stored data gave incorrect calculation
- results when the chemical formula included elements in the range 82
- - 85 and would not evaluate 81 at all.
-
- Alt-F2 Set-up screen difficult to exit:
- Although the on-screen instructions said that <esc> would exit the
- set-up screen, in fact only alt-f2 would exit. Now any key other
- than a menu key (C,V,Z,G,S) will exit the setup screen.
-
- Screen display mishandled when printer failed.
- When using the Alt-F5 report generator, if a report was sent to the
- printer while it was off-line, the obnoxious DOS error message,
- ABORT RETRY FAIL overwrote the bottom part of the screen making it
- appear that the program had crashed. The program was actually still
- working, but the screen display was garbled. That DOS error message
- is now trapped correctly.
-
- Density for Bromine incorrectly displayed.
- A misplaced small letter L caused the density of Bromine to be
- displayed as l3.119. Numerical checks reported the correct
- value, but, of course, on the screen the value was incorrect.
-
- I.U.P.A.C. and traditional group labels swapped in printed report.
-
- Several minor typos in documentation and help screens have been
- corrected.
-
- Improvements:
-
- [Enter] now invokes the extended information screens for the periodic
- table. Previous versions required the f5 key to open the extended
- information screens. [enter] will now do the same thing.
-
- Alt-f5 report function now available at the main periodic table
- screen. Previous versions required that the extended information
- screens be opened before a report could be generated.
- The report generator screen has been revised to allow room for a
- path designation in the filename field.
-
- Element search function (f10) automatically invoked.
- Previous versions required that the f10 key be pressed before
- beginning an entry of an element symbol or element number goto.
- Pressing a letter or number key now automatically opens the f10
- goto window.
-
- Improved Basic information window.
- In color display modes the data in the basic information window is
- highlighted for easier reading.
- Two new data items have been added: state and density.
- Group name now appears directly below the element name and the
- designations for Carbon group and Boron group have been added.
- The display now indicates whether the I.U.P.A.C. or traditional
- group designation is being displayed.
-
- Element description field added to general information screen.
-
- Both I.U.P.A.C. and traditional group designations as well as the
- element period are reported on the general information screen.
-
- Bankcards now accepted. 800 number available for ordering.
- See the file BANKCARD.DOC for this information.
-
- Future development plans revealed... "Early Evaluation" program begun.
- Press f8 at the main periodic table screen or at the DOS prompt run
- the program IS_NEW.exe for a preview look at features currently under
- development for the "new look" version 2.0 of The Integral Scientist.
- V2.0 will be released in both Windows and DOS versions.
-
- A word about file sizes:
- If you are a user of a previous version of The Integral Scientist
- you will notice that the executable files ISE.exe and SLV.exe have
- more than doubled in size in this version. This is an unfortunate
- result of the need to accomadate those who wish to run the program
- from within Windows 3.x. Previous versions of The Integral
- Scientist used a special compression method which reduced the size
- of the file stored on disk but automatically expanded the file as it
- was loaded into memory. This saved disk space and also allowed the
- program to load faster especially from floppy disks. Unfortunately,
- this proved to be incompatible with Windows. As a result, the disk
- requirements have increased by about 180k. The program will no
- longer fit on 360k floppies. If this is a problem for you, contact
- Integral Scientific Software for a special version which is still
- compressed and will install on 360k floppies. (It will not behave
- well in Windows, however.)
-
-
- Running The Integral Scientist in Windows 3.0/3.1
-
- Version 1.11 of The Integral Scientist includes several enhancements
- to enable Users to run the program under Microsoft Windows 3.0/3.1.
- After installing The Integral Scientist in the normal manner, copy
- the file ISE.PIF to your Windows directory.
- Follow the normal Windows procedures for including ISE in the
- desired program group. If you installed ISE in a directory other than
- c:\ISE, be sure to use the PIF editor to make the appropriate
- changes. If you wish to run ISE in a window and you are using
- Windows 3.1, select the 7x12 font for best results.
- The Integral Scientist 1.10 features a command line switch which
- disables direct video. This command switch is included in the
- ISE.PIF command line statement. Disabling direct video makes
- The Integral Scientist friendlier to Windows.
-
- A special report option to send element information reports to a
- screen window permits easier "clipping" of element information. The
- line characters in the regular information windows do not capture
- well in the windows clipboard function.
-
- A word of warning... The success or failure of running ISE or any
- other DOS program from Windows depends heavily on your specific
- Windows environment. If you are having trouble, contact a local
- "Windows Guru." He or she will be able to provide much more help
- than we can.
-
- A true Windows version of The Integral Scientist is planned for
- release in the first quarter of 1993. Registered users will have an
- opportunity to preview the Windows version some time before its
- final release.
