David's first wife was Michal, the younger daughter of King Saul (1 Sam. 14:49).  She loved David (1 Sam. 18:20, 28), yet years later despised and attempted to shame him for his uninhibited dancing in the sight of slave girls (2 Sam. 6:20).  David defended his actions, promising to "become even more undignified than this" (v. 22).  This story concludes with a note that Michal was childless throughout her life (v. 23).
