- Troubleshooting chart
- ---------------------
- Below is a chart of common problems, and their cause and remedy.
- Symptoms marked with a (*) are Risc-OS error messages, or requests, and
- those with a (+) are messages that appear on the status bar of PT.

- Note: when told to enter CLI commands as a remedy, the CLI can be accessed
- by pressing F12 from the desktop. The desktop can be accessed by
- pressing the backtick key from within PT.

- Symptom | Cause/Remedy

- When I load a module, I get | You are loading a file which is not a module
- an error. | (ie. a 'non-module'). Make sure the file that
- | you selected was actually the one that you
- | were trying to load.
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Some of my tracks have | No, not forever they haven't. You are looking
- disappeared from the pattern | at a tune which has more than 4 tracks, and
- at the bottom of the screen. | PT has scrolled the display to show the other
- | tracks; look at the 'Track' display.

- Strange things appear on the | This is because some other programs do not
- end of my sample names | clear the names when typing in a new one;
- | simply remove the useless data. Note however
- | that Tracker 1.0 tunes are stripped of this.

- When I have inserted a new | You are using a PC disc without a volume name.

- | not fit; load a smaller module, or increase

- Sample: Too Big (+) | You are loading a sample that is too big; it
- | must be smaler than 64K - perhaps you are
- Sample exceeds maximum | trying to load a module as a sample; check
- length allowed (*) | the loading type in Disc-op for internal
- | loading.

- Sample: No Room (+) | There is not enough memory to load the
- No room for sample (*) | desired sample! Increase PT's workspace!

- Sample not found (+) | You have tried to load a sample that does not
- | exist. Make sure that the samplename is spelt
- Sample not found (*) | correctly before clicking on the 'Load'
- | gadget. Make sure the file hasn't been deleted
- | by another program.

- No sample name! (+) | You have tried to load or save a sample with
- | no name. Check if the sample number was really
- | the one you wanted to load/save, and that
- | it is not a blank ST-type name, eg. 'ST-99:'
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- No song name! (+) | You have tried to save a module without a
- | valid name. Make sure that the 'Song' field
- | on the mainscreen actually contains a name,
- | or contains more than just a prefix. eg. a
- | 'mod.' prefix must be followed by a name!!
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Can't find help! (+) | You have installed a version of PT with no
- Unable to open helpfile! | help file, or it is named wrongly. Check that
- (occurs on the mainscreen) | a file called '!PTracker.PTĀ·Help' exists, by
- | typing 'info !PTracker.*' from the CLI.

- Can't find cnfg! (+) | You have installed a version of PT with no
- | config-00 file. This file is loaded to obtain
- | the default configuration (not essential!)
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Can't find dir! (+) | You have requested a directory that is
- | unavailable. Make sure that the directory
- | hasn't been deleted by another program.
- | Make sure the device actually exists! (eg :4)
- | Make sure that there is a disc in the drive.
- | Make sure the disc has a root directory.
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Can't open file! (+) | You have tried to load a file that is not
- | accessible. Check that the file has not been
- | deleted by another program. Check that the
- | file has read attributes, by typing
- | 'info <file>' from the CLI. If it hasn't, type
- | 'access <file> rw/r' from the CLI. Check also
- | that the file isn't already open. If so, type
- | 'shut' from the CLI.

- Loading aborted! (+) | You have selected not to load a file.
- | This could be the result of the file not being
- | a recognised filetype.
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Can't load DskT (+) | The module you are trying to load is a
- | 'Desktop Tracker' format module, and cannot
- | be loaded in the version of PT you are using!
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Can't kill zero! (+) | You have attempted to kill sample zero.
- | Change to the correct sample number, and
- | try again!
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Not sample zero! (+) | You have attempted an operation with sample
- | zero. Change to the correct sample number, and
- | try again!
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Not enough mem! (+) | There is not enough memory to claim space
- | for the disc op. directory. Free some up
- | and click 'Disc op.' again.
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Please insert disc '...' (*) | The filer has requested that you insert the
- | disc specified. If you want to abandon the
- | operation that caused the request, then click
- | on 'Cancel', otherwise, insert the disc!!!
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Disc not found (*) | You did not insert the disc that the filer
- Disc not present (*) | wanted. Click 'OK' and retry the operation
- | if you have decided you want to this time!
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Drive empty (*) | You tried to perform an operation on a drive
- | that contains no disc. It would help if there
- | was a disc in the drive!
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Access violation (*) | The file that you have tried to access do not
- | have the correct attributes.
- | Try typing 'access <file> wr/r' from the CLI.
- -----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
- Bad name (*) | The filename that you have used is not valid
- | for the filing system that you are using.
- | Make sure that the filename is of the correct
- | length, and doesn't contain any special
- | characters. Also try 'configure truncate'
- | from the CLI.

- Not implemented (+) | You have tried to use a feature that is not
- | available in the version of PT that you are
- | using. Upgrade to a better version!
