- AcidWarp 1.00 (09-May-1994)
- ---------------------------
-
- (c) Jon Ribbens of DoggySoft, 1994
-
-
- This program was converted from the PC program of the same name, written by
- Noah Spurrier. (noah@cats.ucsc.edu)
-
- This program is freely distributable as long as you don't make any money out
- of it, and as long as you include all the files unaltered. Any damage, loss
- of money, loss of sleep, legal expenses, sudden deaths, chocolate biscuits,
- etc. caused by use or misuse of 'AcidWarp' are not my problem.

-
- What is AcidWarp?
- -----------------
-
- AcidWarp is a program to display pretty patterns. That's it. It has no useful
- function at all. It basically plots mathematical formulae on the screen and
- then colour-cycles them, cycling the red, green and blue components of the
- palette separately.
-
- I'm quite pleased with how fast it goes, actually, seeing as the Archimedes
- is very bad at colour cycling. I think it goes around 10fps on an ARM2, and
- obviously it goes faster on an ARM250 or ARM3 (or an ARM6 <grin>).
-
- I've no idea if this program'll work on a RISC PC - if and when I get to use
- one for a while I'll make AcidWarp detect if it's running on a RISC PC and
- use a colour-cycling method which'll go 50fps no problem. (I think the RISC
- PC has a proper palette - at last!) Also I suspect MODE 13 (which AcidWarp
- uses to display its patterns) is letterboxed on a RISC PC. Ho well...

- Instructions
- ------------
-
- When AcidWarp is loaded, it installs itself as usual on the iconbar. Clicking
- with SELECT on the iconbar icon starts the display. There's a small delay as
- the first image is calculated (subsequent images are calculated while you're
- watching the previous image). Pressing ESCAPE or F12 halts the display and
- returns to the desktop.
-
- Note that AcidWarp requires much more memory when it is displaying images
- than when it's just sitting on the Desktop, so when you click on the iconbar
- icon you may get the message "Not enough memory to start display". In this
- case you'll have to quit another application or reduce a dynamic area like
- the RAM disc or the font cache.
-
- The Options window can be opened by clicking ADJUST on the iconbar icon, or
- by choosing "Options..." from the iconbar menu. From the Options window you
- can select how long each image is displayed for, whether AcidWarp should use
- 'palette morphing', and which images AcidWarp should display.
-
- The first option is "Show each image for <xx> frames". This allows you to
- specify how long each image is displayed for - a higher number means a longer
- time. Note that if you make the number much smaller then AcidWarp *will*
- slow down. The minimum allowed value is 40 frames per image, but AcidWarp
- will go very slowly at this setting.
-
- The next option allows you to toggle palette morphing on/off. Palette
- morphing is when AcidWarp moves quickly from one colour set to another while
- displaying an image. If you don't like this you can turn it off here.
-
- The bottom part of the options window contains a scrolling list of all the
- different images, with a small picture of the image, and a short description.
- You can select the images using SELECT and ADJUST just like a filer window.
- AcidWarp will only choose images which are enabled - these have tick symbols
- next to them. To enable or disable images, select the images you want to
- alter and choose 'Selection->Enable' or 'Selection->Disable' from the menu.
-
- If you want to display just one image, you can double-click on it with
- SELECT in the images list.
-
- You can save the options so they'll be the same next time you run AcidWarp,
- by choosing 'Save options' from the iconbar menu.

-
- The Warper
- ----------
-
- Included in the file "Warper", in the !AcidWarp directory, are instructions
- by Noah Spurrier on how to build a device for projecting the image from your
- monitor onto a wall or similar surface.
