-
- Here's a cut down !Help file. It's quite easy really - if not mail me...
-
- Waveform is a reader for Blue Wave mail for Acorn computer systems running
- RISC OS 3.10 or later versions. The main program is written entirely in ARM
- code, and a simple filter program may be provided to process QWK mail packets
- into a form suitable for use by this program. The replying option has had
- some more code added to it, but it isn't fully functional yet. This feature
- along with the ability to write new mail (in any message area) will only be
- found in the fully version, which I plan to release as shareware.
-
- You need a program such as !SparkFS to decompress the mail packet easily or
- read it directly from the archive. Drag a directory or archive (filetype
- &DDC) icon onto the application's icon on the iconbar, once loaded, in order
- to load the packet. It looks for the following files
-
- DOS filename Risc OS name
- *.INF */INF
- *.MIX */MIX
- *.FTI */FTI
- *.DAT */DAT
-
- It may be that the filenames from a mail packet that has been decompressed
- into an empty directory are truncated to the Filecore limit of ten letters.
- It is important that the program sees the files with the correct filename
- extensions, ie. BWPKT/INF, BWPKT/MIX, BWPKT/FTI and BWPKT/DAT. This problem
- will only be apparent if the name of the packet you download exceeds six
- letters. If this happens then rename the files to have the correct
- extensions or alternatively use Jason Tribbeck's LongFileNames module which
- allows filenames of at least 50 characters.

- Options available from the menu
-
- Packet overview
- ---------------
-
- Window displays the names used on that particular bulletin board for
- 'login', 'alias' and 'sysop'. Also shows the total number of messages found
- in the BlueWave mail packet. Toggle the window to full size to view the name
- of the 'board' - it is out of view as the size of this field is larger than
- the others. You may also notice it shows your number of netmail credits and
- debits and also the maximum of files that may be requested per mail upload.
- (This may be any number from none to ten.)
-
- Message details
- ---------------
-
- This opens the window displaying the contents of the mail packet at the
- front. This may be done by clicking SELECT on the iconbar instead.
-
- The window shows the message (date, subject, etc.) and has icons that allow
- you to move forward or backwards through the packet, go to the start or end
- of an area, change to next or previous area, list messages in that area, and
- finally enter thread following mode. This isn't especially powerful or easy
- to use at present, but it does follow the threading information in the
- downloaded BlueWave mail packet.
-
- List all areas
- --------------
-
- From the icon bar menu, option "List all areas" will open a window with the
- name and number of message areas stored on the bulletin board.
-
- List my areas
- -------------
-
- From the icon bar menu, option "List my areas" will open a window with the
- name and number of message areas that were chosen in the BlueWave
- interactive mode configuration menu option "Choose message areas for
- download".
-
- Preferences
- -----------
-
- Allows you to change the background or foreground colours used in the main
- message display window.
-
- Close packet
- ------------
-
- From the icon bar menu, option "Close packet" releases memory claimed for
- which it used to load the mail file details into memory. The application
- remains loaded - this is a sort of "Minimise memory" option.
-
- Quit
- ----
-
- From the icon bar menu, the last option is labelled "Quit". Selection of this
- option will in fact make the application do just that. Have a nice day!

-
- These bulletin boards support Acorn computers users, and are based in the
- South-East of England. The international dial prefix for the UK is +44 where
- "+" is the international dial prefix, usually "00" and you omit the first
- digit 0 (zero) from the number you are calling abroad.

- Thank-you's go to Stephen Haslam for the sliding heap management routines,
- and to the gang of users who have tested earlier versions of this software:
-
- Graham Allan (still busy developing NewsBase),
- Cy Booker (known most for his program BasCompress),
- Martin Dye (tested !waveform on an empty mail packet, finding bug!),
- Robert Orwin (brought !TTFN to us, started when I begun !waveform in C),
- Rob Senior (sorry he can't test it yet, as he still has RISC OS 2),
- John Stonier (also running my !ARCbbs-BW mail door on his ARCbbs system),
- Colin Turner (sysop of "Heart of Gold" and journalist for I&CT magazine)
- and Joe Wildish (looks forward to the replies version - by the way Joe,
- saving of message body has been implemented for you in this (rushed
- release) version of !waveform - press Save and it will load in an editor)
-
- for their interest in my program, and also Andrew Clover for icon designs.
