- CyberTalk: The communication between Robots
- ===========================================
-
- Introduction
- ------------
-
- MailList has a feature which will be enhanced in future versions. I call it
- "CyberTalk". I think something mentioned in the help-text of a LISTSERV
- robot gave me the idea.
-
- CyberTalk is when two programs communicate without human interference. A
- CyberTalk exchange is initiated (for example) when you register your robot.
-
-
- REGISTER request
- ----------------
-
- Registering is done by sending to your *own* MailList Robot the request
- REGISTER. MailList then sends a REGISTER <host> request to the 'Home of the
- MailList' MailList Robot <maillist@cray-3.xs4all.nl>. This robot then adds
- your host-address to the list of hosts and then sends an UPDATE HOSTS
- request to all registered robots. In the body of that message is a list of
- all the robots registered. So, all registered robots "know" of the existance
- of all the other registered robots.
-
- A user can then send the request HOSTS to any MailList robot and get an
- overview of all the known hosts that use MailList.
-
- UPGRADE request
- ---------------
-
- Another CyberTalk enhancement is the request UPGRADE. This enables MailList
- to upgrade your MailList software as soon as upgrades become available and
- you won't need to do any FTP-ing... Read the file 'Policy' to find out about
- the upgrade policy.
-
- Future
- ------
-
- Future enhancements of this CyberTalk may be a request similar to the
- LISTS GLOBAL request as seen on LISTSERV robots.
