- ## Disc of RISC OS Public-Domain Amateur Radio applications ##
-
-
- First of all, make a backup of this disc (800k E format), or drag all the
- contents into a hard disc directory.
-
- In order to fit as much on this disc as possible, the applications have been
- 'archived' with the !ArcFSr/w utility, and may be unpacked using the PD
- !ArcFS utility supplied on this disc. Initially you may be able to run the
- applications directly in the archive; just double-click on the archive icon,
- and then double-click on the contents. If this doesn't have the desired
- effect then try dragging the archive down onto the !ArcFS icon on the icon
- bar.
-
- However, you cannot do anything which would attempt to alter any data in the
- archive, as you will get the following error message...
-
- -------------------------------
- | This version of ArcFS is read |
- | only. See the Info box (click |
- | menu on the ArcFS iconbar |
- | icon) for details of how to |
- | get the full version. |
- -------------------------------
-
- To unpack the applications properly, proceed as follows...
-
- On a machine with only one disc drive, it is best to install !ArcFS on the
- icon bar, (double-click on !ArcFS), and then create a RAM disc sufficiently
- large to hold the largest archive. (Use the task manager to 'pull' the RAM
- disc size to the desired size.) Drag an archive to the RAM disc,
- double-click on it, insert a fresh disc, and drag the contents of the
- archive onto the new disc. Repeat for all archives, deleting any 'used' ones
- from the RAM disc each time.
-
- Moving the non-archived applications to the new disc is best done via the
- RAM disc, unless you have RISC OS_3, in order to avoid constant disc-
- swapping.
-
- On a twin-drive machine you can simply unpack from one disc to the other,
- but it is much quicker using the RAM disc. Hard disc users are advised to
- drag everything onto the hard disc, and operate from there. All the
- applications should install on a hard disc without problems. RISC OS_3
- compatibility of some of the applications is not yet known for certain, so
- please advise of any problems.
-
- If you have any problems with this disc as a whole, or with getting any of
- the contents to unpack or run, then please contact Rick Sterry G4BLT, QTHR
- since 1981, Tel. 0924-255515, or G4BLT @ GB7WRG on packet. If you have
- problems with the individual applications themselves, eg bugs or matters of
- usage, then please contact the authors.
