- I'll defend Star Trek, but I refuse to recognize Space Rangers as having even
- a modicum of thought provoking content. The one episode I saw (I saw half
- of it, actually.) dealt with the replacement of human Space Rangers with
- android Space Rangers. It ended with the cast talking about how robots and
- computers would never be able to replace humans because they lacked something
- distinctively human. Yawn. Did it ever occur ot them to make computers,
- andriods, and robots which surpassed humans even on their own "turf"? Nope
- -- that would require that we challenge something that we assume about
- ourselves, and possibly depress the audience, which would make those 90210
- wannabes stop buying clothes and cassette singles.
-
- On a "related" note: I want to a record store in a mall a few months ago,
- and asked if they had a particular CD-single (they had the "cassingle"). The
- person there told me that they didn't stock a lot of CD-singles because there
- were a lot of 90210 wannabes who just bought tapes (and not CDs). Sort of
- sad. One of the things I think society should do is instill a respect for
- hight-quality recording media for music. I think the current situation is
- indicative of our inevitable moral, social, and technological decline. ;)
