- There will never (and should never IMO) be a time when the US doesn't
- have an army and I can imagine situations when a draft would be
- appropriate. It is not fair for 1/2 the population to be exempt
- from something while the other half is not. I don't care which
- genders you're talking about here.
-
- You may want to eliminate the draft entirely. That's ok. I feel
- otherwise and also feel that it will be a long time before the
- possibility of a draft is eliminated. But while it's around, I
- think women being eligible for it will go a long way in boosting
- women's image as being competent and capable, not as something that
- needs protecting.

-
- Why should women be treated better than men if a draft occurs? I
- certainly don't want "better" treatment.

-
- I'll say it again. When you give women special privledges, such as
- not being called up for a draft, you put them on a pedestal. People
- will think of women as being "different". You may see it as protecting
- women from evils men have to bear. Others will see women as being
- weaker or not as capable and something that needs protecting. And once
- women are excluded from a draft or combat positions, it will be much easier
- to exclude them from other things, such as high risk (but high paying) jobs
- on the grounds that it's too dangerous.
